  • “Cambrian Energy has been involved in the development of landfill gas and digester gas-to-energy projects for more than 40 years. It has developed 50 of such projects and co-owns or has material economic interests in 3 of the largest RNG projects in the United States.

    ​Cambrian Energy has been a client of CAC Specialty and its principals for more than 15 years. That relationship was born out of crisis.

    ​When I was introduced to the principals of CAC Specialty, I had just received a letter from our prior insurance broker which informed me that they would no longer represent Cambrian Energy and were only continuing to represent the largest of their insurance clients (a decision they would regret and recant in less than a year).

    I had three renewable energy projects with leases that required the maintenance of insurance. The insurance policies were to expire in 3 months. I faced the prospect of having the leases terminated if I could not obtain new insurance coverage in short order.

    ​Through the Herculean efforts of the CAC Specialty principals, they arranged for a major insurance company to quickly complete all of the underwriting of the insurance coverages required to be maintained by Cambrian Energy, including visits to the three project sites, and were successful in not only obtaining the required new insurance policies, but obtained them before the deadline, with better coverages and at a cost savings.

    ​Cambrian Energy now participates in and obtains all of its insurance through the Coalition Coverage Program offered by the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas, a program that is administered by CAC Specialty.

    ​Cambrian Energy and other participants in the Coalition Coverage Program have already experienced cost savings in the premiums paid for insurance. As the number of participants in the Coalition Coverage Program grows, the increasing block of insurance purchases represented by the Coalition Coverage Program will provide CAC Specialty with additional leverage to obtain even greater savings for all of the participants in such Program.

    ​In addition, the likelihood that Cambrian Energy will ever have to face the type of crisis it experienced 15 years ago as to the ability to obtain key insurance coverages, even in types of tightening insurance markets, will be virtually non-existent.

    ​I highly recommend every member company of the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas to become a participant in the Coalition Coverage Program. Your participation will grow the aggregate block of insurance represented by the Program. The result will be that your company will save money on its insurance expenses. As a co-participant, mine will as well.

  • "Our growth strategy at NLCE is to partner with best of class service providers as we seek to build and operate a network of state-of-the-art RNG AD facilities in the US. One challenge we needed to overcome is identifying service providers with domain experience in this growing, but nascent segment. We have found the RNG Coalition and the community they have cultivated to be a valuable resource, providing important support for NLCE business strategy.

The goal of COALITION COVERAGE is to improve access and reduce RNG Coalition member insurance premium costs by aggregating our membership's collective purchasing power across various lines of insurance. 

Over time, RNG Coalition members can also realize significant savings across multiple lines of member-selected insurance coverage options as we aggregate risk and buying power in the insurance markets. Savings could eventually reach 15-40% based on participation estimated from member feedback received to date.
