FreightWaves: Why the Moment for RNG in Heavy-Duty Trucking Has Finally Arrived

After more than three decades of slow build-out, renewable natural gas is gaining real traction in Class 8 trucking, according to FreightWaves. The combination of the new 15-liter natural gas engine, Clean Energy’s nationwide fueling network, and average fuel-cost savings of $3 or more per gallon is creating a tipping point for fleets seeking a near-zero-emissions alternative to diesel.

WM’s Pheasant Point Landfill RNG Facility to Heat 11,500 Homes and Avoid 50,000 Tons of CO₂ in Nebraska

Waste Management (WM) has brought online a new renewable natural gas facility at the Pheasant Point Landfill in Bennington, Nebraska, capable of producing enough RNG annually to heat roughly 11,500 homes while avoiding approximately 50,000 tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions. The project illustrates the dual environmental and energy-security value of landfill-based RNG, transforming a methane liability into a long-term, dispatchable low-carbon fuel resource for the region.

Anaergia Lands $42 Million Contract to Power Large-Scale U.S. Agricultural RNG Project

Anaergia has signed a US$42 million agreement with Neogenyx Fuels — the new Ameresco/HASI joint venture — to deploy its anaerobic digestion technology at a large-scale agricultural facility in the United States. The turnkey manure handling, processing, and digestion systems will produce more than 4,400 scfm of biogas, which Neogenyx will convert into pipeline-quality RNG, underscoring agricultural waste’s emergence as one of the most attractive and underpenetrated segments of the renewable natural gas market.

Neogenyx Fuels Breaks Ground on First Agricultural RNG Facility at Adams Land & Cattle Feedlot

Neogenyx Fuels announced the start of construction on its first agricultural renewable natural gas facility, located at the Adams Land & Cattle feedlot in Broken Bow, Nebraska. The project will deploy eight anaerobic digesters to capture and convert cattle manure into more than 4,400 SCFM of biogas, which will be upgraded into roughly 1.2 million MMBtu per year of pipeline-quality RNG and injected into the local natural gas system. The facility is expected to avoid as much as 63,700 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually while supporting rural economic development and demonstrating the role of agriculture in advancing clean energy.
