The Perfect RNG Recipe

GHD recently interviewed Patrick Young, their newly appointed Renewable Natural Gas National Leader and a key contributor to their 'No time to "waste" – right time to act’ campaign, to gain his point of view on the “perfect” RNG recipe and insights into the future opportunity for RNG.

Patrick believes investments in Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) projects are becoming more and more sought-after due to a few key elements, including, 1) infrastructure investments, such as the newly signed infrastructure bill in the US, 2) technical viability - it's ready and a quick way to start greening our planet now and 3) circular economy – it's a great way to incorporate return on the high initial investment while reusing our waste in a meaningful way.

There’s a Role for Renewable Fuels in Microgrids Today — and Increasingly in the Future

Microgrids can take on many forms to deliver energy security. Their flexibility accommodates the “right” mix of distributed energy resources (DERs) and other components for each customer’s scenario. Achieving resilience can be a simple solution of solar panels on the roof with battery storage and a microgrid controller, but this is not the answer for everyone.

As the US sets aggressive decarbonization goals and local policymakers pass regulation to drive greenhouse gas emission reductions forward, it is imperative that we involve a variety of solutions — including renewable fuels — starting now, and increasingly in the future.

U.S. EPA to Propose Expanding Credit Eligibility Under Biofuel Program - Sources

The Biden administration is expected to propose expanding the kinds of renewable fuel production processes that are eligible to receive credits under the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard program, three sources familiar with the matter said.

The move could help increase production of advanced biofuels, which include lower-carbon products such as renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel, the sources said. It is expected to be included in a highly anticipated upcoming proposal that mandates the amount of biofuels that oil refiners must blend into their fuel mix, they said.

Pittsburgh Emerging as Center of Landfill Gas Development

Bill Johnson had been CEO of ShalePro Energy Services for about seven years when he came upon an emerging part of the industry.

The boom in natural gas production had helped his Houston-based company grow to 300 employees, thanks to generating revenue from unconventional natural gas plays throughout the country.

But this latest opportunity was something totally different: Taking methane that naturally occurs in landfills, collecting it and then processing it on site to create pipeline-quality natural gas.
