Waste Management Opens Four New RNG Facilities, Eyes 12 More by 2026

Waste Management has opened four new landfill renewable natural gas projects in the US and anticipates completing 12 more by 2026, according to a press release.

The Houston-based waste and recycling company's new facilities are located in the Chicago and Philadelphia areas, totaling more than $322 million in investments, which include new recycling plants. The Philadelphia facility is set to become WM's largest of its kind.

Ecopetrol To Invest up to $700m in SAF Facility

Ecopetrol plans to invest up to $700 million to build a 6,000-bpd sustainable aviation fuel plant, according to Reuters reports.

The Colombian state-owned refiner said it plans to invest between $500 million and $700 million for a plant at its Barrancabermeja refinery.

Gevo Expects $30–$40Mn per Year in 45Z Sales Through 2027

Gevo expects to make $30 million-$40 million in 45Z credit sales from its recently acquired ethanol plant in North Dakota, where it is also studying the addition of an ethanol-to-jet unit, an executive said on an investor update call.

The firm would look to add a 30 million gallon per year SAF unit at the 67 million gallon per year ethanol plant, while 45Z sales from its CCS ethanol will begin imminently despite the lack of full-guidance on the credit, CFO Eric Frey said.

Climate-Smart Farming Faces Uncertain Fate

Biofuel industry groups urged the Trump administration to build a stronger link between climate-smart agriculture and the next generation of transportation fuels, in the face of evidence that officials have little intention of doing so.

Industry representatives, farm groups and others submitted dozens of public comments to the Agriculture Department on proposed climate-smart agriculture guidance inherited from the Biden administration, meeting a March 18 deadline.

Report: RNG Trucks Are Best Option for Replacing Diesel

A new report from Energy Vision, a New York-based sustainability nongovernmental organization, has found that trucks powered by renewable natural gas (RNG) are the best option for replacing aging heavy-duty diesel trucks. 

The report, “A Path to a Healthier America: Ditching Old Diesel Trucks,” assesses three non-petroleum alternatives to replace heavy-duty diesel trucks built prior to 2013. Diesel trucks contribute heavily to emissions, and 2.4 million of them are still in operation across the U.S., Energy Vision says.

California Commits $95 Million to Purchase of Satellite Methane Data

California plans to spend $95 million to monitor methane emissions via satellite and $5 million to help communities apply the data to stem pollution.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the three-year, $95 million contract awarded by the California Air Resources Board to nonprofit Carbon Mapper to process and disseminate data gathered by Planet Tanager hyperspectral-imaging satellites.

Greenlane Reports Improved Profitability, Reduced Net Loss for FY 2024

Vancouver-based Greenlane Renewables Inc. saw improvements in its profitability and net loss in its Q4 and 2024 year-end results compared to the year prior, as it stays bullish on the global prospects of biogas.

The company, behind technology that upgrades the gas from organic waste into renewable natural gas (RNG), reported a net and comprehensive loss of $1.3 million in its financial year 2024 results. It marks a significant improvement from a loss of $28.3 million in 2023.
