Cowboy Clean Fuels Announces Funding To Support Commercialization of Technology and Build Out of Initial Project in Wyoming
Cowboy Clean Fuels, am energy technology company formed to simultaneously, permanently sequester carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere and produce carbon-negative, renewable natural gas from readily available agricultural byproducts, announced that it has been awarded approximately $7.8 million from the Wyoming Energy Authority through the Energy Matching Funds program.
In addition, CCF's lead investor, Machan Investments, committed an additional $7.8 million in equity capital to match and enable the WEA funding. The WEA funds and the investor funds from Machan, totaling approximately $15.6 million, will support the commercialization of CCF's technology and the build-out of its first commercial project in Wyoming, the Triangle Unit Renewable Energy and Carbon Capture and Storage project. After receiving a Class V Underground Injection Control permit from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality in late 2023, the TRECCS project is permitted and ready to sequester CO2 and produce RNG at commercial volumes.
American Dairy RNG Industry Moves Forward With DVO
As the American dairy industry continues to take steps toward a sustainable future, DVO anaerobic digester technology is playing an increasingly important role for biogas developers.
"Communities understand that modern digesters help make farmers even better environmental stewards of the land," says Steve Dvorak, president and founder of DVO, Inc.
RNG Coalition: Climate Challenge Calls For Diverse Solutions
Whether in boardroom earnings calls, keynote speeches or media editorials, these days I see the same question repeated everywhere: Is the U.S. heading in the right direction on climate policy?
Answers to that question vary, but one thing is certain: Concern over how communities, corporate leaders and elected officials are handling climate change has never been more apparent. Most U.S. adults (54%) describe climate change as a “major threat” to our country’s well-being, up from around 44% a decade ago, according to a 2023 survey from Pew Research Center. Some 61% of Americans say that climate change is directly affecting their community.
RNG Coalition Contributes to IEA's 2023 Renewables Report
RNG Coalition was among contributors to the International Energy Agency's (IEA) recently published "Renewables 2023" analysis of global growth trends in renewable energy markets.
The report, the latest in an annual series of publications featuring IEA growth projections for various clean energy sectors, includes a so-called special section on biogas and biomethane, marking a first for the series. IEA forecast U.S. biogas and RNG volumes to grow 2.1-fold over the next five years, with the new RFS Set Rule, LCFS incentives and projects currently under development cited as catalysts.
Fellow contributors to the report included Archer Daniels Midland, BP, the European Commission, the Global Wind Energy Council, Iberdrola, the International Air Transport Association, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Neste, and Orsted, among others.
Clean Energy Begins Producing Renewable Natural Gas at Latest Project
Clean Energy Fuels announced that it has completed a new renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility at Drumgoon Dairy in Lake Norden, South Dakota. The 6,500-cow dairy farm is expected to supply 1.66 million gallons of negative carbon-intensity RNG annually to the transportation market when at full capacity.
Construction of the $38 million RNG digester project was completed in early-December 2023 and injection into the interstate natural gas pipeline system of the RNG began within weeks. The RNG produced at Drumgoon will be virtually stored until all pathways for federal and state environmental credits are approved, and a carbon-intensity score is assigned to the RNG, expected in the first half of 2024.
US Emissions Dropped in 2023: Rhodium
In 2023, the US experienced something it hasn’t since before the COVID-19 pandemic: a growing economy paired with shrinking greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. After two years of emissions growth, while the country rebounded from the pandemic and its associated economic disruptions, we estimate that emissions were down 1.9% year-on-year in 2023, while the economy expanded by 2.4% over the course of the year. US emissions remained below pre-pandemic levels and dropped to 17.2% below 2005 levels.
A relatively mild winter and declining generation from coal power plants drove down emissions in the power and buildings sectors. Transportation sector emissions rose by 1.6%, though fuel consumption still held below pre-pandemic levels, while increases in domestic oil and gas production led to a 1% increase in industrial emissions. It’s still too early to say whether the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) will fully achieve their projected emissions impacts. A decline in economy-wide emissions is a step in the right direction, but that rate of decline needs to more than triple and sustain at that level every year from 2024 through 2030 in order to meet the US’s climate target under the Paris Agreement of a 50-52% reduction in emissions.
Hottest Year Ever, What Can Be Done? Plenty: More Renewables and Nuclear, Less Methane and Meat
Whenever there is bad news about climate change, people ask: What can be done?
Tuesday’s news, that 2023 shattered annual heat records, will likely prompt such questions. The European climate agency said average global temperatures were 1.48 degrees Celsius (2.66 degrees Fahrenheit) hotter than pre-industrial times. That’s barely within the international goal countries agreed to in the 2015 Paris climate accord to avoid a world devastated by climate change.
Florida Bill Promoting Renewable Natural Gas Clears Senate Committee
A proposal from Sen. Nick DiCeglie, R-St. Petersburg, cleared a Senate committee Tuesday that would promote renewable natural gas projects in Florida, or RNG.
SB 480 gained approval from the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries 7-0. It now requires approval from the Appropriations Committee on Agriculture, Environment, and General Government.
Waga Energy Signs RNG Agreement for Indiana Landfill Site
Waga Energy, a global expert in the production of renewable natural gas (RNG) from landfills, has signed an agreement with Decatur Hills Landfill to produce RNG at the Greensburg landfill in Indiana, US.
As part of this agreement, Waga Energy will fund construction of an RNG production facility using its patented WAGABOX technology, to upgrade landfill gas (LFG) into pipeline-quality RNG.
Natural Gas Industry Forecasting RNG Growing as Investments Climb
As policies incentivizing clean energy continue to mount, renewable natural gas (RNG) is poised for more growth, the scale of which could depend on the outcome of state and federal legislation.
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) launched investments into alternative fuels, including RNG, in part because of the expansion of investment tax credits (ITC) offered. Last year “sent a really strong signal for investment,” RNG Coalition spokesperson Dylan Chase told NGI.
