Divert Inc. today announced a $1 billion infrastructure development agreement with Enbridge Inc. solidifying the company's leadership in solving the wasted food crisis and delivering on its mission to decarbonize the food value chain and combat climate change.
In addition, Divert secured $80 million in growth equity from Enbridge and also $20 million led by current investor Ara Partners.
A transformative investment for the industry, the $1 billion infrastructure agreement will support the development of wasted food to renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities across North America. This will accelerate Divert's expansion of anaerobic digestion facilities to sustainably convert wasted food into clean renewable energy, with the potential to offset up to nearly 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.
Here's how Hydrogen Could be a Key Part of BC's Energy Future
We all know there’s an urgent need for immediate climate action. The world needs to reduce emissions quickly, and all current options have their strengths and weaknesses. Here in BC, how do we solve our part of the problem? Hydrogen is one option.
“Hydrogen is an exciting prospect for climate action,” says John Quinn, senior manager of renewable gas supply with FortisBC. “As the name suggests, the only element it contains is hydrogen. This means it’s completely carbon-free and doesn’t produce any carbon dioxide emissions when burned. That alone means it has the potential to help BC take meaningful climate action, quickly.”
Say ‘Aloha’ to New Trend of Hydrogen Blending with Hawaii Gas
With its miles of sun-kissed beaches, lush tropical forests and clear, azure waters, Hawaii fits many descriptions of an ecological paradise. The people of Hawaii feel a deep responsibility to protect the land they call home.
“E hele me ka pu’olo,” teaches an ancient Hawaiian proverb – an admonition to make every person, place or condition better than it was found.
Chesapeake Utilities to Develop its First RNG Facility in Florida
FPU Renewables LLC announced plans to construct, own and operate a dairy manure renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at Full Circle Dairy in Madison County, Florida. FPU Renewables and its parent, Florida Public Utilities Company, are subsidiaries of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation (CPK) (Chesapeake Utilities).
"Chesapeake Utilities is committed to being a leader in the transition to a lower-carbon future," said Jeff Householder, president and CEO. "We continue to look for ways to displace more carbon-intensive fuels, and we're working hard to develop waste-to-energy production facilities, and associated infrastructure, that improve agricultural conditions in Florida and other service areas. Collaborations such as the one with Full Circle Dairy are continuing to move both the energy and agricultural industries toward a more sustainable future."
Green Impact Partners Announces $545 Million Partnering Agreement
Green Impact Partners Inc. is pleased to announce it has selected Amber Infrastructure Group as a strategic partner on its GreenGas Colorado, Iowa RNG and Future Energy Park projects, representing up to $545 million in total investment for a 50% project-level equity interest in each facility. Based in London, with offices in North America, Europe and Australia, Amber Infrastructure is an infrastructure investor with over $8 billion in assets under management.
“We are very excited to announce this transformative transaction, moving forward with a leading infrastructure investment partner, that highlights the immense value of our net zero projects and development portfolio,” said Jesse Douglas, Chief Executive Officer. “Securing this project-level funding will enable us to move forward with our development portfolio in an accretive way to our shareholders. This investment will help drive forward the construction of our flagship project - Future Energy Park - and Iowa RNG in 2023, while allowing GIP to continue to progress as many as five additional projects in its $3 billion project pipeline, that could produce up to 10 million MMBtu of carbon negative RNG over the next three to five years.”
BP buys TravelCenters of America for $1.3 billion
BP PLC said Thursday it is buying travel center operator TravelCenters of America Inc for USD 1.3 billion to increase its offering of electric vehicle charging stations.
The announcement comes a day after BP said it will invest $1 billion in electric vehicle charging in the US by 2030. The London-based oil company said the acquisition offers growth opportunities for four of its five growth drivers: convenience, electric vehicle charging, biofuels /renewable natural gas and hydrogen.
DTE Vantage Renewable Gas Project in Wisconsin to Turn Waste from Nearly 10,000 Cows into Fuel for Transportation
Methane from dairy cow manure will become sustainable renewable natural gas (RNG) at a new DTE Vantage biomass facility that begins operations this month in Birnamwood, Wis. The new DTE Vantage project with Matsche Farms, which manages approximately 10,000 cows and spans more than 5,000 acres of land, will produce enough RNG to fuel approximately 1,600 vehicles per year.
“This RNG project is our eighth in Wisconsin, making us one of the largest RNG producers in the Midwest,” said Kevin Dobson, vice president of biomass, DTE Vantage. “We’re excited to be a part of this great community and offer many local environmental and economic benefits. We are assisting Matsche Farms in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by capturing the methane from manure – that would otherwise go directly into the atmosphere – and repurposing it as pipeline-quality RNG.”
UGI Launches Joint Venture with Archaea Energy to Develop Renewable Natural Gas Project in Pennsylvania
UGI Energy Services, LLC (“UGIES”), a subsidiary of UGI Corporation (NYSE: UGI), and Archaea Energy Inc. (“Archaea”), a subsidiary of bp (NYSE: BP) announced today that they recently entered into a joint venture, Aurum Renewables, LLC (“Aurum”), to develop a renewable natural gas (“RNG”) project at the Commonwealth Environmental Systems landfill in Hegins, Pennsylvania. Archaea Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of Archaea, holds a 60% ownership interest, and a subsidiary of UGIES holds a 40% ownership interest in the joint venture.
Under the joint venture, UGIES will contribute its existing 11 megawatt landfill gas-to-electricity facility. Through the joint venture, Aurum will develop a new RNG facility where the landfill gas will be processed to become RNG. Once complete, the project is expected to have the capacity to produce approximately 5,000 MMBtu per day of pipeline-quality RNG. Archaea, an industry-leading RNG company, will lead the development, engineering, construction, and operation of the new RNG facility, and UGIES will take a lead role in marketing the RNG produced by the facility.
PG&E Capturing Methane from CA Dairies as New Source for Natural Renewable Energy
"So in 2022, we interconnected our first four projects for renewable natural gas. So that was a huge milestone for us," said Christine Cowsert, senior vice president for Gas Engineering at PG&E.
The utility now has millions of cubic feet of renewable natural gas flowing through its pipelines, created from methane captured from manure at dairies in the Central Valley.
RNG is Being Used to Help Power Amazon Semi-Trucks, Other Fleets
“We milk about 2,500 cows a day,” said Evan Barton, the owner of South Fork Dairy in Newark, Ohio. “With that comes about 11 semi loads of manure per day.”
Besides using it to fertilize crops, Barton found another way to make all of that manure even more useful.
