Stanton Farms is the First in Ontario to Produce Renewable Natural Gas
This small town north of London is on its way to becoming a more sustainable community thanks to a nearby dairy farm. On Friday, municipal, provincial, and federal government officials joined industry representatives at Stanton Farms to launch its newly expanded renewable natural gas plant that converts organic waste into fuel.
The project, completed in partnership with pipeline operator Enbridge Gas, makes the five-generation family farm the only farm-based renewable natural gas supplier to plug into the provincial power grid.
U.S. Patent Office Confirms Patent Protection for Evonik’s 3-Stage Process for Efficient Biogas
The U.S. Patent Office has confirmed the validity of Evonik’s patent for a 3-stage process for efficient biogas upgrading using SEPURAN® Green membranes in a voluntary supplementary examination procedure. Based on this decision, biogas projects in the USA using the patented separation process can continue to be offered and implemented exclusively by Evonik and its partners. The decision by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office also applies to biogas projects outside the U.S., provided they use the patented separation process and components essential to the process that are manufactured in the United States.
“The decision by the U.S. Patent Office clearly confirms the innovative power and technological superiority of our biogas upgrading membranes,” says Maureen Schaefer, Group Head of Evonik’s Membranes Business in the Americas. “For our customers, this decision is an important signal to continue developing the global biogas market together and reliably.”

TC Energy to invest $29.3-million in renewable natural gas project at Jack Daniel distillery.
TC Energy says once the facility is operational in 2024, it will break down the byproduct from the distilling process to generate methane gases recovered as biogas says it will invest $29.3-million in a renewable natural gas production facility that will use a byproduct from the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tenn.TC Energy says once the facility owned by Lynchburg Renewable Fuels LLC is operational in 2024 it will break down the byproduct from the distilling process to generate methane gases recovered as biogas.
BP to Buy U.S. Biogas Producer Archaea for $4.1 Bln
BP will buy U.S.-based renewable natural gas (RNG) producer Archaea Energy for about $4.1 billion, the companies said on Monday, as the British energy major seeks to expand its alternative fuels business.
The deal will the largest ever RNG acquisition, topping Chevron Corp's $3.15 billion buyout of biodiesel maker Renewable Energy Group Inc earlier this year.
Energy Users Seek Biogas Providers to Reduce Carbon Emissions
Biogas demand from energy users including farmers looking to reduce their fossil-fuel dependency has been on the rise in recent weeks and months, CEO of the Irish Bioenergy Association (irBEA), Seán Finan has said.
As energy users seek to reduce their carbon emissions, there has been a big shift in recent months as the level of inquiry into renewable gas providers has increased.
Campus Microgrid Awarded $750,000 MEA Grant
Frostburg State University (FSU) and its partner Optimize Renewables have been awarded the first grant from Maryland’s new Resilient Maryland Capital Development program. The $750,000 grant will fund the construction and installation of the university’s resilient campus microgrid.
FSU’s microgrid plan calls for an integrated system that includes an advanced microgrid controller that will manage rooftop and ground-mounted solar arrays, solar parking lot canopies, integrated electric vehicle charging stations and renewable natural gas-powered fuel cells.
California Fleets Fueled with Bio-CNG Achieve Carbon-Negativity
Natural Gas Vehicles for America (NGVAmerica) and Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition) today announced that California fleets fueled with bio-CNG achieved carbon-negativity last calendar year for the second straight year.
Ninety-eight percent of all on-road fuel used in natural gas vehicles in California in 2021 was renewable natural gas (RNG). According to data from the California Air Resources Board the annual average carbon intensity score of bio-CNG in that mix was -44.4 gCO2e/MJ.
