DriveClean Initiative Launches, Advocates for National Clean Fuel Standard

A diverse group of clean fuel stakeholders, including several biofuel producers, on September 19 launched the DriveClean initiative, which is urging lawmakers to create a market-based technology-neutral national Clean Fuel Standard during the 118th Congress that convenes in January.

As part of its advocacy efforts, the CleanDrive initiative has unveiled a website, DriveClean.us. The group has published a statement of principles aimed at lawmakers. Among these principles is a call to create a national CFS that complements existing state programs. The group is urging lawmakers to ensure a future national CFS is technology and fuel neutral by using a life-cycle emissions performance-based approach that will promote innovation and investment across all potential clean fuel types, including electricity, hydrogen, biofuels and others.

Dominion Energy Utah CarbonRight Program Enrolls 1,000th Participant

Dominion Energy Utah's CarbonRight program has reached an important milestone, enrolling its 1,000th customer in less than six months since program inception. CarbonRight has the potential to deliver exciting environmental benefits: every 1,000 participants represent carbon offsets equivalent to removing around 900 cars from the road or planting 7,000 new trees.

CarbonRight participation is voluntary and available to all Dominion Energy Utah and Idaho customers. For just $5 a month, a typical residential customer can offset their entire carbon footprint from their natural gas usage. The program cost to customers covers offset purchase and program administration costs - Dominion Energy does not profit from the program.

New Farm to Produce Renewable Natural Gas with Galileo’s Technology

Galileo Technologies designed, installed, and commissioned one of its innovative Microbox-Bio stations for integrated production of compressed renewable natural gas. The installation was performed at the Liberty Dairy Farm project in Wisconsin, United States.

“Farm-based RNG projects offer dairy farmers the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as provide a valuable source of additional revenues. Liberty strives to work closely with dairies in the planning phase to ensure the project development and operation can be integrated into the existing farm operations with minimal impact,” said Tom West, Director of Business Development at Liberty.

SoCalGas and Landi Renzo USA Convert 200 Additional Field Service Trucks to Run on Renewable Natural Gas

Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) announced an additional multi-million-dollar collaboration with Landi Renzo USA for 200 new Ford F-250 service pickup trucks to join the utilities fleet. The trucks will be converted to run on renewable natural gas (RNG). The service trucks will be outfitted with the latest Landi Renzo Eco Ready equipment, a California Air Resource Board certified ultra-low emissions vehicle system.

Last year, SoCalGas partnered with Landi Renzo USA to convert 200 service trucks to be added to the fleet. With the conversion of an additional 200 new RNG trucks this year through the continued partnership, SoCalGas' fleet is expected to reduce an additional 2,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (CO2e), resulting in approximately 44 percent of SoCalGas' service vehicles will run on clean fuels.

Opinion: How Microgrids Help Data Centers Mitigate and Adapt to Climate Change

In order to mitigate climate change, significant steps to reduce carbon emissions must be taken very quickly. In an ideal scenario, we would produce all of our power through renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. But technology has yet to reach the point where renewables alone can sufficiently meet our high energy demands.

While emission-free energy is our common goal, we can’t afford to wait to implement the perfect solution when lower-emitting alternatives, such as natural gas and renewable natural gas, can buy time and make an immediate impact. Natural gas can serve as an integral part of the energy transition until renewable energy technology, coupled with energy storage at scale, develops to be dispatchable 24/7 and is cost-effective. Letting perfect be the enemy of good will only hold us back in the fight against climate change.
