SoCalGas Announces the Commissioning of Carbon-Negative Waste-to-Energy Technology at Los Angeles Facility
Southern California Gas Co. announced that Kore Infrastructure has successfully begun testing and demonstrating its carbon-negative, waste-to-energy modular system at the utility's Los Angeles facility.
The innovative technology is designed to divert organic waste from California landfills and convert it into carbon-negative hydrogen and renewable natural gas (RNG). These clean fuels could be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from industrial processes and hard-to-electrify sectors, including heavy-duty transportation.
BlackRock is Buying Renewable Natural Gas Producer for $700 Million
BlackRock Inc. is buying a company that turns food waste and cow manure into renewable natural gas, a deal that adds to momentum in the industry during the war in Ukraine, company officials said.
The world’s biggest asset manager is acquiring Vanguard Renewables, a Boston-area company that works with dairy farmers and food companies to produce renewable natural gas for utilities and energy firms such as Dominion Energy Inc. and Enbridge Inc. The transaction is valued at $700 million, and BlackRock could spend over $1 billion more in financing Vanguard Renewables’ expansion, a person familiar with the matter said.
Republic Services Ahead of Schedule to Reach Emissions Reduction Targets, Says New Report
Republic Services, Inc. has released its 2021 Sustainability Report, which highlights the company's efforts supporting decarbonization and circularity and outlines continued progress toward 2030 sustainability goals.
Achievements include a 9 percent reduction in operational greenhouse gas emissions over the 2017 baseline year, ahead of pace to reach the company's interim target of a 10 percent reduction by 2025, and the development of an integrated plastics recycling facility.
Biogas: Wisconsin Utilities Partner With Farmers to Replace Fossil Gas
Wisconsin’s largest utility company has received approval to replace some of its natural gas supply with renewable methane from local farms, which could present new opportunities for the burgeoning alternative fuel industry.
The Public Service Commission voted unanimously to approve WEC Energy Group’s $75 million pilot program intended to help its utilities meet their gas supply needs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, providing farmers with a new revenue stream and reducing the risk of groundwater contamination.

Chevron Corporation believes the future of energy is lower carbon, and the company works to provide the energy that enables human progress around the world. Chevron is focused on leveraging its capabilities, assets and customer relationships to deliver energy solutions to a growing world.
The company’s approach to achieving this is twofold: Working to lower the carbon intensity of its own assets and operations and creating new businesses dedicated to lower carbon solutions.
Opinion: The Case for Renewable Gas in a Clean Energy Future, Not Just Electricity
The provincial government’s CleanBC Roadmap sets ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets including a cap on natural gas utilities. Reducing emissions has always been top of mind for us at FortisBC, both through an ever-increasing focus on energy efficiency and since 2011, introducing North America’s first Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) program.
Renewable and low carbon gases are an important cornerstone of a low carbon economy and help abate emissions across the whole value chain. Their use is essential if we are to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in multiple sectors, including buildings, industry, and transportation.
Lawrence, Kansas, Black Hills Energy Customers May Soon Have Access to Voluntary RNG Program
Nearly everyone at this point understands how a wind turbine or a solar panel can help make the electricity used in your home more environmentally friendly. But how the heck does a landfill, or even a dairy farm, make the natural gas used in your home greener?
Lawrence, Kansas, residents appear on the verge of finding out. Lawrence is a part of a proposed pilot project announced by Black Hills Energy, the largest natural gas provider in the city. The company is seeking approval from state utility regulators that would allow people to voluntarily pay an extra amount on their monthly natural gas bills to help fund something called “renewable natural gas.”

Anaergia to Build One of Japan’s Largest Cow Manure to Renewable Energy Facilities
Anaergia Inc. announced plans to construct a biogas plant in Kasaoka, Okayama for Toyo Energy Solution Co., Ltd. The facility will produce renewable electricity using biogas made by anaerobically digesting cow manure from Okayama Prefecture farms.
The plant will prevent about 13,500 tonnes of CO2e in emissions from the manure and from fossil fuels that would have been used to generate the power, the equivalent of taking about 2,900 cars off the road for a year (calculated based on a 20-year Global Warming Potential).
