Novilla RNG Announces Start of Construction at Trillium Hill Farm in Wisconsin

Three Petals RNG, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Novilla Investment Holdings, LLC, announced the beginning of construction of its first dairy renewable natural gas project at Trillium Hill Farm. The start of construction comes only two months after executing a manure rights contract and eight months after the execution of a letter of intent with the dairy. This project represents the first of several under development by Novilla RNG to begin construction.

The fully funded project, located in Berlin, WI, will use dairy manure from Trillium Hill to generate an estimated 375,000 gallons of gasoline equivalent of ultra-low carbon RNG per year. The Company anticipates the fuel produced at its Trillium Hill site will be used in compressed natural gas vehicles and contribute to the decarbonization of the transportation sector.

CHAR Technologies Begins Phase 1 of Thorold Renewable Natural Gas & Biocarbon Project in Ontario

CHAR Technologies Ltd. announced the start of Phase 1 of the Thorold Renewable Natural Gas & Biocarbon Project at the Thorold Multimodal Hub in Ontario, Canada, with the commencement of the project lease on July 1.

Supported by the Natural Gas Innovation Fund, as well as Bioindustrial Innovation Canada, Phase 1 of this project will contribute to a lower carbon intense economy by providing direct drop-in solutions to replace the consumption of fossil fuels. This is an important step in the previously announced and proposed build, own, operate proprietary high temperature pyrolysis system at the Hub. Once fully operational, the project is anticipated to simultaneously produce renewable natural gas and biocarbons, converted from clean woody feedstocks that would otherwise be destined for landfills.

Natural Gas Could Power New Chapter in Manure-to-Energy

At a few pennies per kilowatt-hour, farmers don’t make much from the electricity they generate from cow manure. So producers like Jason Burroughs are turning to markets clear across the country to sell a more promising type of power: renewable natural gas. “I think farms have a big opportunity to be part of the solution, basically from a lot of what we do every day,” said Burroughs.

California’s low-carbon fuel standard is driving changes in the way farmers like Burroughs turn manure into energy. After years struggling to make enough money from electricity sales to maintain aging generators, Burroughs and other farmers are switching to RNG, which generates credits for California’s low-carbon fuel standard program and could give new purpose to manure digester systems that might otherwise go idle.

Cummins Strives to Meet the Challenge of a Complex Energy Transition

As the energy transition continues along a fitfully evolving progression, it becomes increasingly apparent that getting to the “net zero” emissions goals set by the various global annual climate gatherings will be far more complex than has been thus far advertised. There is in fact a pressing and growing need to develop a wide variety of carbon-reduction solutions that can meet the needs of widely-disparate applications.

Nowhere is this need more apparent than in the transportation sector, most especially in the realm of heavy-duty vehicle and engine applications. To that end, Cummins is developing a range of new engine options that will allow companies to switch from diesel to natural gas, utilize hydrogen if and when that solution becomes available, and includes fuel cells, hybrids and electric applications as well.
