ONE Gas and Vanguard Renewables Partner to Develop Farm-Based Renewable Natural Gas Solutions
ONE Gas and Vanguard Renewables today announced a renewable natural gas (RNG) initiative designed to develop and expand farm-based RNG projects across Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. This will be Vanguard Renewables’ first midcontinent alliance with a local natural gas distribution company that is committed to innovating its clean energy fuel mix through RNG.
The joint effort delivers a sustainable, renewable energy option for ONE Gas customers to reduce emissions and achieve environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.
“We are excited to partner with Vanguard Renewables to provide more sustainable and carbonneutral energy solutions for our communities and customers,” said Jason Ketchum, vice president of Commercial Activities for ONE Gas. “RNG is a vital part of a sustainable energy future as it provides a reliable path to reduce emissions.”
Enbridge Partners with Walker Industries and Comcor Environmental to Develop Renewable Natural Gas Projects Across Canada
Today, Enbridge Inc. (Enbridge) (TSX: ENB) (NYSE: ENB), Walker Industries and Comcor Environmental, announced a partnership to jointly develop renewable natural gas (RNG) projects across Canada.
The partnership aims to transform landfill waste into carbon-neutral energy, which will be injected into local natural gas distribution networks across Canada, reducing the overall carbon emission of the gas supply used to heat homes, power businesses and fuel vehicle fleets.
Quebec Landfill Deploys Waga Energy's RNG Technology
The green gas produced will be purchased by Énergir, the largest gas distribution company in the province, and injected into its gas grid onsite. This landfill gas-to-RNG project will be the first in Canada to use the Wagabox technology, developed by Waga Energy to recover landfill gas in the form of RNG, also known as biomethane.
Waga Energy will buy the landfill gas from RGMRM for a period of at least 20 years. It will then be transformed into grid-compliant RNG by a Wagabox gas treatment unit built onsite. Waga Energy will generate income by selling its RNG production to Énergir. Until now, the landfill gas at Saint-Étienne-des-Grès was captured and burned in a flare.
Duke Energy Consolidates its Renewable Energy Offerings Under One Brand
Duke Energy is rebranding its renewable energy businesses as Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions. The brand unifies products and services offered by Duke Energy Renewables, REC Solar, and Duke Energy One.
The unified brand will partner with companies to provide projects at scale, specifically offering financing, planning, construction and installation, fleet electrification, off-site renewables, distributed generation, energy resiliency, and management services.
The business unit will be run by Chris Fallon, who will serve as president of Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions. Fallon is a 21-year veteran of the company and previously was president of Duke Energy Renewables. He earlier was vice president of nuclear development.
Certarus, Caterpillar to Explore Hydrogen Solutions with MoU
Certarus and Caterpillar will work together to advance the use of lower carbon fuels which includes conventional and renewable natural gas in addition to hydrogen.
This aim will be explored with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday (26th April) between Certarus and one of the world’s leading manufacturers of construction and mining equipment, Caterpillar.
Ultimately this could see hydrogen solutions integrated into various industries with Caterpillar providing equipment for mining and construction sites, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.
Curtis Philipon, CEO of Certarus, said, “Together we will develop the tools to enable commercial customers to reduce their carbon intensity and achieve environmental and economic benefits.
California Drayage Fleets Face Potential Zero-Emission Mandate
The push for zero-emission trucks in California has left drayage operators questioning that approach in light of their previous investments in equipment using natural gas fuel, an industry association executive said.
Under an executive order by Gov. Gavin Newsom, all drayage trucks would be required to be zero-emission by 2035, a move supported by the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif.
Biogas Plant Market Set to Surge Significantly During 2020– 2027 by Growth, Trends
Rise in concerns about environmental hazards and surge in awareness about the harmful effects of greenhouse gases emitted in the atmosphere due to the usage of conventional fuels has played a significant role in driving the growth of the biogas plant market. Moreover, decrease in reserves of fossil fuels has led the growth of the demand for biogas among different industries. Biogas has been proved to be an eco-friendly alternative to conventional fuel used for generation of heat in the industries. High demand has been witnessed for biogas in municipalities, among farmers, and in industries to meet the increasing energy requirements. Moreover, surge in usage of biogas for transportation escalated the demand for the global biogas plant market.
Amp Americas Develops Minnesota’s First Biogas to Transportation Fuel Project
Amp Americas, while still fairly young, has ridden a fluctuating market curve and done some pivoting since it began converting dairy manure to biogas at one farming operation in Indiana. Its latest milestone since its 2011 launch is landing a deal to develop and operate Minnesota’s first biogas-to-transportation fuel project; it began delivering fuel from that project to the Alliance pipeline in October 2020.
Amp will process 700,000 gallons a day of manure, leveraging anaerobic digesters at three sites owned by farming operation Riverview. This venture brings Amp’s portfolio up to four renewable natural gas (RNG) projects across the Midwest and west, which collectively produce over 10 million gallons of RNG annually.
OPAL, NextEra Energy Unit to Build Renewable Gas Facility in Minnesota
Privately held OPAL Fuels LLC and a unit of NextEra Energy (NEE.N)are planning the first landfill renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility in Minnesota, the companies said Wednesday, as U.S. consumers and governments demand more clean energy.
Landfill gas, like gas from animal waste, food waste and sewage treatment plants, is mostly methane, the second-biggest contributor to climate change after carbon dioxide. In its first 20 years in the atmosphere, methane has 80 times more heat-trapping potential than carbon dioxide.
Voluntary RNG Program will Help to Reduce Ontario’s Carbon Footprint
Enbridge Gas customers can help support Ontario’s transition to clean energy through OptUp, a new voluntary Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) program.
The program, which launches today, supports the Ontario provincial government’s Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help Canada meet its 2030 emissions reduction target.
For two dollars a month, residential customers who sign up will contribute to reducing Ontario’s carbon footprint with the purchase and addition of RNG to the natural gas supply.
