Austin Airport Transitions To Renewable Natural Gas

The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport rang in the new year by transitioning to renewable natural gas with the help of Clean Energy — the leading provider of natural gas fuel for transportation in North America and a longtime partner — officials said Thursday.

The partnership launched on Jan. 1 calls for Clean Energy to provide the airport with its Redeem™ brand of renewable natural gas, the first commercially available vehicle fuel made entirely from 100 percent organic waste. The Austin-Bergstrom shuttle bus fleet has historically utilized alternative fuels, airport officials noted.

Biodigester to Transform Organic Dairy Waste into RNG at West Michigan farms

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A dairy farmer in Ottawa County is working with a San Francisco-based energy company with the goal of building a biodigester to transform manure into natural gas.

“It’s going to help us become carbon neutral,” said Bill Henke, who owns Beaver Creek Farm in Polkton Township. “It’s going to lower emissions. It’s going to reduce odors.”

The machine would be owned and operated by Brightmark Energy, which specializes in renewable natural gas and plastic energy. The company would sell the natural gas created by the biodigester.

77 RNG-powered Buses Launched in Bristol, UK

UK-based bus transportation firm First West of England has launched 77 biomethane-powered buses in the city of Bristol. The first 10 biogas buses came into operation in January 2020, refuelling at an existing biogas station that opened in 2019. As part of the company’s latest initiative, First has constructed a new gas filling station at the Lawrence Hill depot where the new buses can now refuel.

Another 27 buses took to the streets of Bristol this week. The new buses feature Scania chassis built in the UK and will reduce emissions by 85%, as well as giving customers an ‘improved on-board experience’, according to First, with comfortable interiors, USB charging points and additional wheelchair space.

SoCalGas Supports for CPUC Creation of Biomethane Incentive Reservation System

(SoCalGas) today announced support for the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) new Incentive Reservation System for the CPUC biomethane monetary incentive program.  The reservation system will help increase transparency about available incentive funding for biomethane interconnection projects in the state.  Currently, there is about $32 million in funding available through the incentive program.  This money is available for eligible projects on a "first come, first served" basis through December 31, 2026 or until the money runs out, whichever occurs first.

The new reservation system is an important step to give biomethane developers certainty the money they applied for will be there at the end of the project.  Another benefit of the reservation system is that it can help spur additional interconnection projects.

Dairy Farms Fuel a Cleaner San Joaquin Valley: Sustaining Jobs, Fighting Climate Change, & Improving Air Quality

There’s a new wave of renewable fuel, and it’s coming from California’s family dairy farms. As the state works toward ambitious climate and clean energy goals, renewable natural gas (RNG) is the leading alternative to diesel in heavy-duty trucks—significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality. Until recently, most of the RNG consumed by California vehicles came from out-of-state sources, mainly from landfills. However, California’s dairy farmers are partnering with the state and private investors to build valuable infrastructure and provide a new fuel source that benefits the local environment, the state’s economy, and the climate.
