Waste-to-gas Facility Revived in Swindon
The funding has been provided by engineering services company Advanced Biofuel Solutions, with support from the Department for Transport and Cadent, the UK’s ‘biggest’ gas distribution network.
The company has set a target of bringing the plant into service in the second half of 2020.
When testing for the plant was first announced in 2012, the three operators said it would demonstrate the possibility of “converting waste into bio-substitute natural gas (Bio-SNG)” which can be used as fuel in the transport sector (see letsrecycle.com story).

New On-site Fueling Technology Adopted by Southern California Waste Hauler
Onboard Dynamics today announced the deployment of its GoFlo®natural gas compressor to Serv-Wel Disposal and Recycling, allowing the waste hauler to refuel its trucks in its fleet yard — without any reliance on electricity. The addition of on-site refueling was a key factor in Serv-Wel’s decision to install a GoFlo system as electricity costs continue to rise in southern California. Serv-Wel is thrilled to find a solution that removed the infrastructure barriers for providing clean, compressed natural gas (CNG) to its fleet of waste haulers.
Serv-Wel Disposal is a family-owned, reputable waste collection and disposal company that services the needs of residential, commercial, industrial and construction clients in the greater Los Angeles area. This permanent installation provides Serv-Wel with an economical, onsite compressed natural gas station that refuels its waste trucks, decreases traffic to alternate fuel stations and reduces greenhouse gas pollutants.

Ontario to Consult on Ways to Enable Farmers to Enter RNG Market
The Government of Ontario will launch consultations to identify potential changes that would allow farmers to expand the emerging renewable natural gas market in Ontario and make the province a North American leader in the biogas sector. The consultations will focus on changes designed to reduce red tape and grow untapped economic opportunities for on-farm biogas operations.
"Today we are launching consultations designed to unlock the economic potential of the biogas industry," said Ernie Hardeman, Ontario's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. "These consultations will focus on identifying potential changes that would enable the biogas sector to access new markets for renewable natural gas through red tape reduction. We want these consultations to pinpoint potential changes that could enable Ontario's $35 million dollar-a-year biogas sector to grow by up to 50 per cent over the next five years."

Government-backed Trial of RNG Trucks Slashes Emissions for Asda
The coalition of businesses leading a UK-wide trial of biomethane fuels for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), including Asda and Kuehne + Nagel, has revealed that the scheme mitigated the emission of 1,400 tonnes of CO2e over a two-year period.
Funded in part by the UK Government’s Office for Low-Emission Vehicles and its Innovate UK arm, the trial saw Asda, Howard Tenens and Kuehne + Nagel use biomethane to power 20 HGVs over 24 months. Each of the vehicles met the Euro VI standard for emissions.
During the trial period, this fleet of HGVs collectively travelled 2.2 million kilometres, emitting 1,400 tonnes less CO2e than a pure-diesel fleet of the same size travelling the same distance would have.

VGS Plans to Eliminate Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2050
Vermont Business Magazine VGS announced today an ambitious and comprehensive strategy to transform the company and eliminate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. The company outlined three key strategies to achieve the near-term goal of a 30% greenhouse gas reduction in customers’ homes and businesses by 2030: doubling energy efficiency savings with a $20 million upfront investment; significantly expanding renewable natural gas for customers; and strengthening partnerships to advance projects such as district energy in Burlington and Middlebury, and a net zero home pilot program.
Ratepayers will be part of the process and would see an average $3 monthly increase on their bills. Rendall noted that ratepayers have seen their annual costs go down about $250 over the last 10 years, not even accounting for inflation.

Demand for Redeem RNG grows, New Clean Energy Fuels Contracts Announced
Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced Nov. 5 new fuel, construction and service agreements as more fleets convert from diesel to Redeem renewable natural gas (RNG), a transportation fuel made from organic waste that not only addresses short-term air quality issues caused by diesel, but is a carbon-neutral alternative that greatly reduces the amount of greenhouse gas produced by vehicles.
Clean Energy has begun a major fueling infrastructure upgrade for trucks operating in the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach. The upgrade will increase the availability of Redeem at the nation’s largest alternative fuel station in America’s largest port complex. The first phase of the project, which has been completed, delivers renewable compressed natural gas (CNG) through six new dispensers. Phase two, which will install new compressors and associated equipment to improve the performance and efficiency of the station, is scheduled for summer 2020.
