Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Outlook: 2026-2030
The U.S. renewable natural gas (RNG) market is at an inflection point. Exponential growth, both in terms of the number of operating projects and the amount of fuel produced over the past seven years, has created a situation where supply is outpacing demand, at least in the short term, putting pressure on prices. But over the longer term, demand is expected to grow faster than supply, tightening the market and improving conditions for producers.
Viridi Announces Sale of First Section 48 Investment Tax Credits from Magnolia Landfill RNG Project in Baldwin County, Alabama
Viridi Energy (“Viridi”), a Warburg Pincus portfolio company and a leading renewable natural gas (RNG) platform, today announced the successful sale of its first Investment Tax Credits (ITCs) under Section 48 related to Viridi’s landfill gas-to-RNG project at Magnolia Landfill in Baldwin County, Alabama.
This milestone reflects Viridi’s ability to monetize Section 48 tax credits to accelerate investment in domestic renewable energy infrastructure. Proceeds from the ITC transaction support Viridi’s strategy to capture landfill methane, upgrade it to pipeline-quality RNG, and deliver measurable economic and environmental benefits to local communities—while supplying low-carbon fuel attributes that support the U.S. transportation market.
SkyNRG Gets Environmental Approval for US Renewable Fuels Project
US State and County departments have approved SkyNRG's plans for a new sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel project.
Lane County and Emerald People’s Utility District Select Waga Energy to Upgrade Landfill Gas to RNG in Oregon
Lane County, in partnership with Emerald People’s Utility District (EPUD), has selected Waga Energy to build, own, operate, and maintain a renewable natural gas (RNG) production unit at the Short Mountain Landfill in Eugene, Oregon. When in operation, the plant is designed to produce about 407,000 MMBtu of RNG per year.
Over the last several decades, Emerald People’s Utility District (EPUD) has generated electricity from the landfill gas at Short Mountain Landfill at a capacity of 3 MW. EPUD selected Waga Energy to generate RNG, replacing the engines at the site. Lane County agreed with EPUDs recommendation: to select Waga Energy, a global leader in the production of renewable natural gas (RNG) from landfills, to upgrade the landfill gas into pipeline-quality RNG at Short Mountain Landfill in Eugene for an initial 25-year period. The plant will utilize the WAGABOX® technology, developed and patented by Waga Energy. Once operational, it is able to process up to 2,000 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) of landfill gas and produce about 407,000 MMBtu (120 GWh) of RNG per year, delivering gas to the local pipeline.
Waga Energy : Develops Renewable Natural Gas Project in Florida
Hillsborough County has selected Waga Energy to upgrade the landfill gas into pipeline-quality RNG at the Southeast County Landfill in Lithia. The plant will utilize the WAGABOX® technology, developed and patented by Waga Energy. Once operational, it will be able to process up to 3,000 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) of landfill gas and produce over 610,000 MMBtu (180 GWh) of RNG per year, delivering gas to the local pipeline for at least 20 years.
