Green Plains Enters into Agreement with Freepoint Commodities to Monetize 45Z Tax Credits

Green Plains Inc. (NASDAQ:GPRE) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with an affiliate of Freepoint Commodities LLC (Freepoint) to sell Clean Fuel Production Credits, also known as 45Z tax credits, generated in 2025 under the Inflation Reduction Act.

The initial credits will be generated from low-carbon intensity ethanol production at Green Plains’ three Nebraska facilities. A portion of these credits are being generated prior to the expected launch of carbon capture later this year, highlighting the competitive carbon intensity (CI) profile of the company’s current strategy and operations. Green Plains has also signed a term sheet with Freepoint to monetize tax credits from three additional facilities expected to qualify under 45Z during 2025.

Nicor Gas Connects Second RNG Facility to Illinois Pipeline Network

Nicor Gas has completed its second renewable natural gas (RNG) interconnection, linking WM’s Orchard Hills Landfill facility in Davis Junction, Illinois, to its pipeline system.

The project is expected to produce about 5,709 Mcf per day, or more than 2 million dekatherms annually, enough to power roughly 18,000 homes served by Nicor Gas.

Greenlane Renewables Inc. (“Greenlane” or the “Company“) (TSX: GRN) (FSE: 52G), a leading global provider of biogas desulfurization and upgrading systems, today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Airdep S.r.l., received in the third quarter new purchase orders for its proprietary biogas desulfurization equipment including multi-unit purchases totalling $7.9 million (€4.9 million) from three repeat customers. These unit sales will support the production of renewable natural gas (“RNG”), also referred to as biomethane.

The California Air Resources Board is getting a new leader at a pivotal moment, as it battles the Trump administration in court and contends with growing scrutiny from Democrats and voters questioning the price of the state’s climate principles.

Liane Randolph has chaired the board of the state’s top air and climate regulator since 2020. She oversaw a range of policies including landmark clean-car and truck rules, a fuel standard with implications for gas prices and the state’s signature carbon trading program, cap-and-trade. This week, Gov. Gavin Newsom nominated his senior climate advisor, Lauren Sanchez, to replace her.

Ikea, Vanguard Renewables Team Up to Turn Food Waste into Renewable Energy

Ikea and sustainable waste management company Vanguard Renewables are partnering on a pilot program that converts food waste into clean resources such as renewable natural gas and low-carbon fertilizer for agricultural use, the companies announced Thursday.

The six-month pilot is backed by the furniture retailer’s U.S. division and has launched at five Ikea units in New Haven, Connecticut; Oak Creek, Wisconsin; Stoughton, Massachusetts; and Schaumburg and Bolingbrook in Illinois. Ikea said it plans to expand the program following the pilot.
