RNG Gains New Momentum in Longhaul Trucking
Range, fuel supply and refueling infrastructure concerns tend to be the biggest bumps in the road for any alternative to a diesel tractor, but recent data and developments indicate at least one emerging technology’s path forward is becoming clearer — renewable natural gas.
And without many of the hurdles that battery-electric trucks face.
Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE): Capitalizing on RNG Growth and Policy Tailwinds in 2025
Clean Energy Fuels has been aggressive in securing RNG supply agreements with municipalities and transit agencies, a move that underscores its focus on high-volume, stable customers. Recent contracts with the Los Angeles Metro, Trinity Metro in Texas, and the City of El Paso are expected to deliver over 20 million gallons of RNG annually. These partnerships not only diversify CLNE's customer base but also align with the growing demand for decarbonization in public transportation.
Montauk, Biogas Tech Startup Partner for Flared Gas Methanol JV

Norway Scientists Use Microbes to Make Biomethane from CO2 with 96% Purity
Scientists at the Norwegian Institute of BIOeconomy Research (NIBIO) have turned to biofilms to turn carbon-based gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon monoxide (CO) into biomethane, a green and sustainable alternative to natural gas.
These biofilm-based processes can produce biomethane with 96 percent purity, an organizational press release said.

How Biogas Is Solving Data Centers’ Clean Energy Challenge
Biogas doesn’t just offer a backup plan for tech companies seeking more power; it provides a blueprint for sustainability. By transforming landfill, agricultural, and wastewater emissions into usable power, biogas solves two problems at once: it reduces fugitive methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas (GHG), and generates renewable electricity.

Waste from Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factories is now Powering the Vermont Grid
At the Ben & Jerry’s factory in St. Albans, Vermont, thousands of gallons of ice cream waste are now being turned into biogas, creating energy for the state’s electric grid.
When factory workers start to produce a new flavor and switch the machinery from, say, Cherry Garcia to Chunky Monkey, they have to push all the leftover ice cream out of the pipes and rinse them with water so that the flavors don’t intermingle. That creates a lot of waste that can’t be sent to wastewater treatment plants.
