ReFuels Opens Bio-CNG Station in Scotland
In Scotland, ReFuels N.V has opened a new refuelling station at Livingston in West Lothian, Scotland. The public-access Bio-CNG station operated under the CNG Fuels brand will enable low-emission transport across large parts of Scotland.
The Livingston station can refuel 14 trucks simultaneously, when at full utilisation, enabling more than 600 trucks to be refuelled per day with a total capacity of 20 million kilograms (kg) of Bio-CNG annually.
Anaergia Signs First Capwatt Contract
Anaergia Inc. has entered a contract with Capwatt Biomethane Unipessoal Lda (Capwatt) to design and construct Metanext, a biogas plant in central Italy. Expected to begin operation in June 2026, Metanext will produce 7.6 million cubic meters of high-quality biomethane annually from agro-industry waste.
British Columbia Low Carbon Fuels Standards 2030 Outlook
In 2008, British Columbia enacted the Greenhouse Gas Reduction (Renewable and Low Carbon Fuel Requirements) Act to establish renewable content and GHG reduction targets for transportation fuels. Building on this, the BC Low Carbon Fuel Standard (BC-LCFS) introduces progressively stricter carbon intensity reduction targets, supporting the transition to cleaner fuels and increased adoption of zero-emission vehicles through compliance obligations, credit systems, and ongoing market oversight. This analyst note highlights cCarbon’s CarbonOutlook Model for the BC LCFS market, provides an overview of the program, examines biofuel and EV trends, and presents a demand-supply outlook through 2030.
Bioenergy Devco announces name change to BTS Bioenergy
Bioenergy Devco, a leader in the design, engineering, construction, financing, and operation of advanced anaerobic digester systems, has announced that the company is now known as BTS Bioenergy. Biogases/RNG Could Replace a Quarter of Global Natural Gas Demand: IEA
Biogases play an important and growing role in energy systems. Produced locally using organic waste, biogas and biomethane can contribute to energy security, waste management, emissions reductions and agricultural development.
In recent years, demand for biomethane – also known as “renewable natural gas” – has grown rapidly in many countries, supported by dozens of new policies. As a low-emissions substitute for natural gas, the use of biomethane has been targeted across a wide range of sectors, including power, industry, transport and buildings.
EU to Miss 2030 RePowerEU Biomethane Production Target: Rystad
The EU will reach below half of its targeted biomethane production capacity by 2030 despite sufficient feedstock in the bloc, which will make it difficult to supply liquified biomethane to the shipping sector, according to Rystad Energy on Wednesday.
The bloc will reach biomethane production capacity of around 15 billion cubic metres by 2030, well below the RePowerEU target of 35 billion cbm, with France, Germany, and Italy accounting for the majority of production, the energy consultant projected.
The Pros and Cons of Brazil’s Biomethane Decree
Brazil's mines and energy ministry is drafting a decree that will regulate the national decarbonization program for natural gas producers and importers and the incentive program for biomethane, as established by the fuel for the future law.
The document, which underwent public consultation this month, is expected to be published soon.
Indian Firm Begins Pilot Biomethane Plant in Solapur: Report
An Indian renewable energy firm has partnered with a government agency to launch a pilot-scale biomethane plant in the state of Maharashtra, local media reported.
Organic Recycling Systems has collaborated with the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to launch a biomethane plant at the Solapur Bioenergy Systems facility, reported Energitica India.
Vanguard Renewables Opens Wisconsin RNG Facility
Renewable energy producer Vanguard Renewables has opened a new anaerobic digestion and depackaging facility in Wisconsin, according to a release.
The site, located at a dairy farm in Eden, Wisconsin, will use food and beverage waste to create renewable natural gas, liquid digestate for land applications, and animal bedding.
Hartland Landfill Producing Renewable Natural Gas for FortisBC
The Capital Regional District (CRD), working together with FortisBC Energy Inc. (FortisBC) and Waga Energy Canada, has started producing Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) at a new facility located at the Hartland Landfill. The Hartland Landfill RNG facility is Vancouver Island’s first RNG facility.
Originally announced in 2020, the nearly $32 million Hartland Renewable Natural Gas facility, utilizing Waga Energy’s WAGABOX technology, is designed to produce a maximum of 360,000 gigajoules of RNG annually, reducing the capital region’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 475,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next 25 years, the equivalent of removing the total emissions from 105,000 homes in Canada over the facility lifetime.
