California Opts To Preserve Credits for Anaerobic Digesters in Major Regulatory Update
The California Air Resources Board voted to amend the Low Carbon Fuel Standard on Nov. 8, updating a sweeping transportation fuels program that incentivizes projects nationwide and seeks to decarbonize the sector.
The amendments package was backed by clean fuels groups whose membership includes waste companies like WM and Republic Services. But public debate was consumed by concerns that the amendments lock in subsidies for combustion fuels and anaerobic digesters on dairy farms at a time when environmentalists are urging a speedy transition to zero-emission vehicles.
DTE Vantage To Convert Waste From Dayton Water Reclamation Facility Into Renewable Natural Gas
DTE Vantage commissioned a new renewable natural gas (RNG) project this month in conjunction with the City of Dayton Water Reclamation Facility, which treats residential and industrial wastewater from Dayton and neighboring communities. This effort is enabled by a new pipeline connecting the City of Dayton’s wastewater facility with existing RNG processing resources that Vantage owns and operates.
“This RNG project is a prime example of how waste material from various sources can be converted to deliver environmental benefits in communities across the country,” said Kevin Dobson, vice president of biomass, DTE Vantage. “This is Vantage’s first-ever RNG project utilizing wastewater treatment biogas as a source and demonstrates our ability to find creative solutions to reduce greenhouse gases in any community.”
UPS Pushes for Carbon Neutrality With Diversified Low-Carbon Strategies, Electrification
UPS has set a target to achieve 100% carbon neutrality by 2050, leveraging a mix of alternative fuels, fleet electrification, and operational efficiencies to meet its sustainability goals.
The plan includes milestones like using 40% alternative fuels in ground operations by 2025, sourcing 25% of its facilities’ power from renewables by 2025, and cutting CO2 per delivered package in half by 2035, said Gordon Reed, UPS director of industrial engineering.
