U.S. Clean Energy Tax Credit Market To Reach $25 Billion in 2024
A flourishing new market has grown out of the key policy changes set forth by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022, making more capital available for clean energy developers. The IRA created a pathway for clean energy developers to sell their federal tax credits to third parties in exchange for cash, thereby accelerating investment. The first transactions under this new provision occurred in January 2023.
Tax credit transfer marketplace operator Crux released a mid-year Market Intelligence Report, noting a larger-than-expected market for tax credit sales in 2024. Crux tracked $6.8 billion specific transactions in the first half of 2024, corresponding to an estimated $9 billion to $11 billion of transactions closed so far this year nationwide.
ISU Study Explores Win–Win Potential of Grass-Powered Energy Production
Strategically planting perennial grass throughout corn and soybean fields helps address the unintended environmental consequences of growing the dominant row crops, including soil erosion, fertilizer runoff and greenhouse gas emissions.
But converting portions of farmland back to prairie has to make financial sense for farmers, which is why a research team led by Iowa State University landscape ecologist Lisa Schulte Moore has spent the past six years studying how to efficiently turn harvested grass into lucrative renewable natural gas.
Green Impact Partners Finalizes Its Carbon Credit Pathways for the Future Energy Park
Green Impact Partners has finalized carbon credit pathways under Alberta's TIER program for its Future Energy Park project in Calgary. The company has also secured agreements to sequester biogenic CO2 from the facility. This milestone confirms the project's anticipated revenue profile and economics, positioning it for debt financing.
The Future Energy Park will be North America's largest carbon-negative biofuels facility, using non-food grade wheat to produce ethanol and renewable natural gas (RNG).
Hyliion Signs a Letter of Intent to Provide a 200kW KARNO Generator for a U.S. Energy RNG Fueling Station
Hyliion Holdings, a developer of sustainable electricity-producing technology, today announced the signing of a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) with U.S. Energy, a leading developer and distributor of refined products, alternative fuels, and environmental credits. Under the terms of the LOI, Hyliion will place a 200kW KARNO generator at a U.S. Energy renewable natural gas (RNG) fueling station to ensure reliable and efficient power at the site.
U.S. Energy's RNG fueling stations are leading the way in enabling natural gas adoption in the commercial transportation sector. Integrating Hyliion’s KARNO generator will enhance the station’s energy efficiency and contribute positively to U.S. Energy’s sustainability goals.
Viridi Energy Signs 20-Year Deal To Supply RNG to Energir
Viridi Energy, an RNG producer, has entered into a 20-year supply agreement with Energir.
The deal will see Viridi deliver 650,000 gigajoules of RNG annually from its facilities in the US to Energir, a major energy distributor in Quebec and Vermont.

Air Liquide To Design, Build and Deliver Its First MSW Biomethane Purifier in Latin America
In Brazil, Air Liquide will design, build and deliver its first unit in Latin America for purifying biomethane produced from solid waste, at the Cariacica (ES) landfill. The site, owned and operated by Marca Ambiental, receives half of all waste produced in Espírito Santo, Brazil. The new facility will be capable of transforming this waste and processing 2,500 cubic meters per hour of biogas into biomethane. At this rate, the site will have a total production capacity of 155 GWh/year of biomethane, which can be injected into the natural gas pipeline to supply energy to the local community. The site is expected to be operational in the second half of 2025.
WM Highlights M&A Ramp-Up, Investments in Recycling and RNG
WM achieved a 30% quarterly operating EBITDA margin for the first time, the company reported during its Thursday earnings call.
