RNG-Fueled Trucks ‘Most Compelling Carbon Reduction Strategy,’ Says Hexagon Agility VP
As the trucking industry’s decarbonization efforts continue with a major focus on developing battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell technologies, natural gas - specifically renewable natural gas (RNG) - continues to increase in popularity in both production and fleet usage.
RNG, also known as biomethane, is a carbon-negative biogas that has been upgraded to be similar in quality to fossil natural gas. It's sourced from municipal solid waste landfills, livestock, wastewater treatment plants, and food production facilities, among others.
Domino's Pizza: A Recipe for Sustainability
In a delicious display of environmental consciousness, Domino's has partnered with Vanguard Renewables to tackle the growing issue of food waste. This collaboration has diverted 243.75 tons of inedible food waste from overflowing landfills. To put 243.75 tons of food waste into perspective, that is an estimated emissions reduction of 156 Tons of C02e in 2023 alone.
The secret weapon in this eco-friendly partnership is Vanguard Renewables Farm Powered® Anaerobic Digesters. Vanguard Renewables operates these facilities on dairy farms, where they combine inedible food waste along with cow manure in a sealed tank called an anaerobic digester. In a breakdown process fueled by naturally appearing microbes, this organic mix breaks down and generates biogas. This biogas is then cleaned and upgraded on-site into renewable gas, a clean-burning fuel that can be used to power homes, businesses, and even vehicles!

Breaking Ground: Transforming Waste to Energy - A Sustainable Triumph at Loess Hills RNG Facility
Waste Connections and ESI proudly introduce another landmark project, in collaboration with Kinder Morgan, and bp, unveiling a state-of-the-art Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) processing facility at the Loess Hills Regional Sanitary Landfill in Malvern, IA. This facility, crafted with precision over a two-year span by ESI, features a complex, multi-step processing plant engineered to convert landfill gas into methane, offering a remarkable advancement in the renewable energy landscape.
The Facility focuses on waste-to-energy conversion by capturing landfill gas, which is primarily methane, and processing it into renewable natural gas. This project showcases a sustainable waste-to-energy conversion model by taking a natural byproduct of waste and turning it into energy. The produced RNG seamlessly integrates into Kinder Morgan's natural gas pipeline network. Through an offtake agreement, bp secures the RNG supply from Waste Connections to fuel transportation operations, solidifying the project's commercial and environmental impact in the RNG market.
Denmark's CIP Seeks 2,000 Farmers To Supply Manure for Biomethane Plant in Ireland
Manure from over 2,000 farm in Ireland will be needed to fuel a biomethane project announced by a Danish fund manager today.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has said it will develop, construct and operate manure-powered biogas plants in Ireland over the coming years that will deliver 30% of the country's biomethane targets.
Archaea Energy, Republic Services Celebrate First RNG Plant in Landmark Partnership
Today, Archaea Energy, a subsidiary of bp, and Republic Services celebrate the first renewable natural gas (RNG) plant in the companies' Lightning Renewables joint venture (JV). The Archaea Modular Design (AMD) plant at Republic's National Serv-All Landfill in Fort Wayne, Ind., is the first of approximately 40 landfill gas-to-RNG projects targeted by the JV and is scheduled to come online this summer.

There is treasure in trash, and the U.S. is sitting on more than 146 million tons of it.
That’s just at municipal landfills, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Sevana Bioenergy Acquires Rialto Bioenergy Facility, Bolstering West Coast RNG Production
Sevana Bioenergy, a leading developer and operator of large-scale renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities, announced today the successful acquisition of the Rialto Bioenergy Facility located in Rialto, California.
“The Rialto Bioenergy Facility is a strategic asset that aligns perfectly with Sevana Bioenergy’s mission to accelerate the production of RNG,” said John McKinney, CEO of Sevana Bioenergy. “This acquisition strengthens our presence on the West Coast and allows us to continue playing a vital role in helping California achieve its ambitious renewable energy and waste diversion goals.”
Hexagon Agility, Brudeli To Deliver NZEVs for U.S. Freight Transport
Hexagon Agility and Brudeli Green Mobility (Brudeli), a Norwegian electric transmission technology company, will collaborate on a new integration. The companies said it will integrate Hexagon Agility’s CNG/RNG systems with Brudeli’s plug-in PowerHybrid technology.
Transport Project and RNG Coalition Says Bio-CNG Helped California Fleets Achieve Carbon Negativity in 2023
In California, Transport Project (TTP) and Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition) – with partner California Renewable Transportation Alliance –announced that California fleets fueled with bio-CNG achieved carbon-negativity in their transportation operations last calendar year for the fourth straight year.
Renewable natural gas (RNG) accounted for 97% of all on-road fuel used in natural gas vehicles in California in 2023. According to data from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) the annual average carbon intensity score of bio-CNG in that mix was -126.42 gCO2e/MJ.
