Waga Energy, Steuben County, and Corning Natural Gas Inaugurate an Innovative RNG Production Unit at the Bath Landfill in New York
On Thursday May 16, 2024, Kelly Fitzpatrick, Chairwoman of Steuben County, Guenael Prince, CEO of Waga Energy Inc., and Mike German, CEO of Corning Natural Gas, inaugurated the first WAGABOX Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production unit at the Steuben County Landfill in Bath, New York. Approximately 80 people attended the ceremony, which included a tour of the WAGABOX facility and a tour of the landfill.
This WAGABOX unit commenced operations on March 15, 2024, and will deliver up to 207,000MMBtu (60 GWh) of RNG annually into the Corning Natural Gas network. The RNG produced replaces fossil derived fuels and is supplying the equivalent of 4,000 households annually with clean, local, and renewable energy, avoiding an estimated 13,500 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions per year. Corning Natural Gas, the local gas utility servicing the region, constructed the gas interconnect for this project and accepts the gas produced into its existing gas distribution system.
Tampa Mayor: City Is Preparing for Climate Change From Many Angles
In the last five years, Tampa has made big strides to become a more resilient and sustainable community in the face of climate change. I made climate one of the top focus areas of my administration, hiring the city’s first sustainability and resilience officer to help set and meet goals. I’m happy to report that we have directed hundreds of millions of dollars into climate-ready infrastructure to reduce flooding and heat while simultaneously working to reduce our carbon emissions through deployment of solar and electric vehicles.
Streets are a great place to start a conversation about the vast topic of climate change since vehicles account for half of Tampa’s carbon emissions. To reduce these “tailpipe” emissions, Tampa is providing more mobility options, encouraging walkable communities and converting to electric cars.
Hexagon Agility Renews UPS Agreement, Receives New RNG Fuel System Orders
Hexagon Agility, a business of Hexagon Composites, signed a three-year extension of its master services agreement with package delivery company UPS in February 2024 to supply renewable natural gas (RNG) fuel systems for medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
Under the extended agreement, Hexagon Agility has received new orders totaling $57.7 million for delivery of RNG fuel systems for heavy-duty trucks. The orders include trucks using the new 15-liter (X15N) natural gas engine.
STX Group Moves Beyond Biomethane’s Traditional Financing Model
STX Group is a leading global environmental commodity trader and climate solutions provider, which is committed to accelerating the global transition towards a low-carbon economy. It sees renewable natural gas (RNG) as instrumental to this transition.
The organization’s interest in biomethane goes back to 2013, Keric told Bioenergy Insight.
RNG Coalition Petitions EPA To Improve, Delay Provisions Of RFS Biogas Regulatory Reform Rule
The Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition) is continuing its efforts ensure Renewable Fuel Standard regulations do not undermine the ability of biogas-based fuels to help lower the carbon intensity of the U.S. transportation sector.
The RNG Coalition on April 30 filed a supplemental petition with the U.S. EPA outlining continuing concerns with the agency’s Biogas Regulatory Reform Rule. An initial petition was filed by the group in September 2023.
Biofuel Groups Urge Treasury To Issue Guidance On 45Z Tax Credit
A group of 25 trade organizations, including the Advanced Biofuels Business Council, American Biogas Council, Clean Fuels Alliance America, Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas, Growth Energy, Renewable Fuels Association, and SAF Coalition, on May 15 sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen urging the agency to release guidance for the 45Z clean fuels production tax credit and any necessary updated GREET models.
The 45Z clean fuels production tax credit was created by the Inflation Reduction Act and is scheduled to take effect next year. The technology-neutral tax credit aims to support the decarbonization of the highway transportation, maritime, rail, aviation and home heating sectors.
Waga Adds North Carolina Landfill to Its Project List
The operators of the Rockingham County Landfill have selected France-based Waga Energy as the technology provider to produce marketable renewable natural gas (RNG) from landfill gas at that facility in Madison, North Carolina.
Waga Energy's designation follows a public request for proposal that culminated in a 20-year agreement with the county to install an RNG production facility at the site using the firm’s Wagabox technology.
Our Waste, Our Solution: RNG a Ready Answer for Fugitive Methane
The first few months of 2024 have offered more excitement for renewable natural gas (RNG) proponents across North America. Our journey now isn’t just about turning what we once saw as waste — from our farms, our cities, and our industries — into energy. It’s about rewriting the narrative of energy production to one that embraces our responsibility to the planet.
The RNG industry has witnessed significant breakthroughs recently. Take, for instance, Waga Energy’s launch of its first RNG project in the U.S., introducing innovative waste-to-energy technologies to a New York landfill. Then there’s the ambitious initiative between TotalEnergies and Vanguard Renewables, which aims to launch 10 new RNG projects over the next 12 months. These developments underscore a deep commitment to expanding our RNG capabilities, with contributions from both innovative upstarts and some of the largest energy companies in the world.
Sysadvance North America Team Has Secured a Purchase Order for Methagen AD Biogas Upgrading System To Be Installed in Pennsylvania
Sysadvance North American has been selected to supply a biogas upgrading solution for the University Area Joint Authority Biosolids Facility Upgrade project. The Methagen AD 900F system was vetted by Rettew Associates within the Project Specification because of its capability to treat biogas from a wastewater treatment plant anaerobic digester with guarantees around meeting pipeline purity and purification efficiency. The Methagen AD is just a part of an overall plant upgrade with a total project value of $81 million.
Quandel Construction Group will hold the contract for the general construction portion of the project.
Clean Energy and Maas Energy Works To Build RNG Dairy Production Plants
Renewable energy firm Clean Energy Fuels said it will jointly develop renewable natural gas (RNG) production plants at dairy farms across seven states in the U.S. with RNG producer Maas Energy Works.
The project will collect manure from dairies with a combined herd size of about 35,000 cows, preventing methane emissions from entering the atmosphere.
