Harnessing the Power of Biogas: A Sustainable Opportunity for Industrial Manufacturing
While renewable energy has been making strides in various sectors, the potential of biogas in revolutionising industrial manufacturing remains largely untapped in New Zealand.
Biogas production involves the anaerobic digestion of organic materials such as agricultural residues, food waste, and wastewater. This process utilises microorganisms to degrade the organic material into methane. A byproduct from anaerobic digestion is digestate which can be utilised as biofertilisers.
Ukraine Advances Legislation for Biogas Exports to Europe
Ukraine's parliament has advanced legislation to enable customs clearance of biomethane for international trade via gas pipelines.
The procedural draft law was adopted in its first reading. Accompanying documents denote that Ukrainian companies are already working on producing biomethane and transporting it through pipeline networks.
The Industry Needs a Stable Framework and Renewable Gas to Decarbonize While Being Competitive
The industry needs “more decisive in intensity and effectiveness” support to be able to face the challenges of the sector, including its decarbonization, as well as a “predictable and stable” regulatory framework that gives certainty to the companies that have to undertake the investments.
These are the conclusions of the work carried out by Sedigas in collaboration with PwC, presented this Wednesday at the CEOE business association, where the deployment of renewable gases has been advocated, which not only represent the “opportunity” to decarbonize heat-intensive activity but also They will also be a “reindustrialization lever” of Spain.
Clean Energy's Renewable Natural Gas Facility at Marshall Ridge Dairy in Iowa Begins Production
Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced the completion of its latest renewable natural gas (RNG) facility in Marshall County, Iowa. The Marshall Ridge Dairy project is expected to produce 1.7 million gallons of low carbon-intensity RNG annually.
The three-digester facility located in State Center, Iowa, is now producing pipeline quality RNG and injecting it into the national grid. RNG is a sustainable fuel derived from organic waste that provides an immediate and significant carbon reduction in transportation. Financed through one of Clean Energy's production joint ventures and developed by Dynamic Renewables, the project totaled $42 million.
California's City of Long Beach Approves Bioenergy Devco's Organics Recycling Facility Bid
The City of Long Beach has entered into exclusive negotiations with Bioenergy Devco, the North American division of BTS Bioenergy, to construct an organics recycling facility that will recycle food waste, converting it to an organic soil amendment and renewable natural gas. This facility will help Long Beach advance its sustainability goals and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
RNG Coalition Urges Michigan Senate To Hold CFS Hearing
The Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition) on February 8 sent a letter to Michigan lawmakers urging them to conduct a hearing on Senate Bill 275 (SB 275) as an important step toward realizing Michigan’s long-term climate goals.
SB 275, a critical Clean Fuel Standard (CFS) legislation, would address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Michigan's transportation sector, a significant contributor to the state's carbon footprint. The proven success of CFS programs in U.S. states like California, where consumption of petroleum-based diesel has plummeted by over 50% within just a few years, underscores the need for a similar program in Michigan.
Clean Energy’s Renewable Natural Gas Digester at Tri-Cross Dairy Begins Production
Clean Energy Fuels announced the successful completion and operational launch of its latest renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility at Tri-Cross Dairy in Viborg, South Dakota.
The new RNG facility sits on a 5,000-cow dairy farm and is forecasted to produce 1 million gallons annually of negative carbon-intensity RNG. The project represents a significant milestone in Clean Energy’s ongoing leadership in providing the cleanest fuel for the transportation market at the company’s network of fueling stations across North America.
Startup Targets Small Landfill Gas to Ease EV Power Grid Strain
A few years ago, Adam Wright was walking through a Berkeley, Calif., park when he encountered a smokestack combusting methane. The flare was the city’s mitigation measure to break down the gas seeping from a landfill that had closed decades earlier and been converted into a bayside amenity.
The constant supply of gas sparked an idea: What if he could generate electricity with it? Tying together individual small landfills across the country could power things like electric vehicle charging, Wright thought.
Southern Company Gas Subsidiaries In Virginia & Tennessee Complete First RNG Purchase
Two Southern Company Gas subsidiaries, Virginia Natural Gas and Chattanooga Gas, have entered into their first renewable natural gas (RNG) agreement, which will increase access to clean, safe, reliable and affordable fuel. The emissions reductions from this transaction are estimated to be equivalent to the carbon sequestered by over 12,000 acres of U.S. forest or an area the size of Manhattan.
The deal involves acquiring environmental credits from facilities in Nebraska and Indiana.
Opinion: New York’s Falling CO2 Masks a Big Climate Problem — Rising Methane
At the end of last year, New York State released its latest annual greenhouse gas inventory, covering the year 2021. The good news was that carbon dioxide emissions went down from 2019, leading to an overall decrease in net greenhouse gases.
But this masks a big problem. Emissions of methane, a greenhouse gas that is 84-87 times more potent than CO2 as a planet warmer, have actually increased. Methane now comprises 40% of New York’s total net greenhouse gases, up from 39% in 2019.
