A step towards energy independence of Ukraine: received a grant from the EU to increase biogas and hydrogen production. 

A separate division of the international company MHP “MHP Eco Energy”, which heads the research group for new biomethane and biogas production technologies, concluded an agreement to receive more than €1,367,000 in grant funding as part of the European Commission’s “Horizon Europe” research and innovation program, which will be aimed at the development of new innovative projects for the production of biomethane and green hydrogen in the European Union and Ukraine.

Green Rock Energy Partners Announces New Acquisition

Green Rock Energy Partners LLC, a sustainable infrastructure-focused private equity firm, has announced an addition to its expanding portfolio of investments in the renewable energy space.

It has acquired PSA South Hills Landfill Gas Venture LLC, a renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility located in South Park Township, Pennsylvania, and the purchase closed in Q4 2022.

Virgin Atlantic to Purchase 70 million Gallons of SAF

Virgin Atlantic on Dec. 6 announced the purchase of 10 million U.S. gallons per annum of SAF to be produced by Gevo Inc. and supplied by Virgin Atlantic’s joint venture partner, Delta Air Lines. The agreement with Delta builds on the existing long-term partnership between Delta and Gevo and increases the use of SAF from the U.S. West Coast. SAF produced by Gevo will come from one of its future production facilities.

Clean Energy Renewable Natural Gas to Fuel Trucks for Pennsylvania Refuse Authority, WM and Others

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced it is has begun providing renewable natural gas (RNG) for the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority (CCRRA) in Bellefonte, PA, supporting a transition to a cleaner, low-carbon fuel produced from organic waste.

“The recycling and refuse industry has long embraced natural gas to mitigate the impact of greenhouse gas emissions,” said Chad Lindholm, senior vice president, Clean Energy. “Our CCRRA station is one of the first on the East Coast to transition to RNG and will further our sustainability goal of providing RNG at all of our stations by 2025.”

Sunnyside OKs Agreement to Build RNG Plant

Sunnyside’s city council has approved an agreement with the Port of Sunnyside and Pacific Ag to construct infrastructure for a new renewable natural gas plant near Sunnyside.

The plant will produce renewable natural gas, or biomethane. Pacific Ag, based in Oregon, uses crop residue and dairy manure from growers to produce biomethane, and will build the facility, according to information from the company and the city.

CenterPoint Energy’s Green Hydrogen Facility is First Ever to Register and Issue Certificates on M-RETS Renewable Thermal Tracking Platform

CenterPoint Energy, Minnesota’s largest natural gas utility, has registered its Minneapolis green hydrogen facility on the M-RETS® Renewable Thermal Tracking System to track renewable thermal certificates (RTCs).  CenterPoint Energy’s facility, which began operations earlier this year, is the first-ever green hydrogen facility to register with a tracking system in North America and the company is receiving the nation’s first RTCs issued for green hydrogen.

RTCs are a tool that represents the environmental attributes associated with renewable natural gas and other renewable thermal commodities, including green hydrogen. CenterPoint Energy plans to retire the RTCs generated from its green hydrogen facility on behalf of its customers.

Greenlane Renewables Announces Dairy RNG System Sales Contract

Greenlane Renewables has been awarded a $4.6 million (US$3.5 million) contract for a dairy RNG project in the Western United States for the supply of a biogas upgrading system. Greenlane will supply its pressure swing adsorption system for upgrading biogas generated from anaerobic digestion of dairy cow manure into carbon negative renewable natural gas ("RNG") suitable for injection into the local pipeline network. Order fulfillment is expected to commence immediately.

"This new project win for Greenlane continues to highlight just how important dairy-derived RNG is, particularly for commercial transportation fuel providers", said Brad Douville, Chief Executive Officer. "Dairy RNG is by far the lowest carbon intensity fuel available today and remains a core and growing option for major fuel providers to decarbonize now."

Shell to Acquire Renewable Natural Gas Producer Nature Energy

Shell Petroleum NV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell plc (Shell), has reached an agreement with Davidson Kempner Capital Management LP, Pioneer Point Partners and Sampension to acquire 100% shareholding of Nature Energy Biogas A/S (Nature Energy) for nearly USD $2 billion (€ 1.9 billion). The acquisition will be absorbed within Shell’s current capital range, which remains unchanged.

Based in Denmark, Nature Energy is a producer of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) from agricultural, industrial, and household wastes.

By purchasing the shares in Nature Energy, Shell will acquire the largest RNG producer in Europe, its portfolio of cash generative operating plants, associated feedstock supply and infrastructure, its pipeline of growth projects and its in-house expertise in the design, construction, and operation of innovative and differentiated RNG plant technology.
