Vermont Creamery Joins National Movement to Turn Food Waste into Renewable Energy
Vanguard Renewables’ Chief Strategy Officer John Hanselman and Vermont Creamery’s President, Adeline Druart, were joined by Vermont Secretary of Agriculture Anson Tebbetts, along with Danielle Goodrich-Gingras, co-owner and herdswoman of the Goodrich Family Dairy Farm, to announce Vermont Creamery’s membership in The Farm Powered Strategic Alliance (FPSA/Alliance). The announcement occurred at Vanguard Renewables’ anaerobic digester, the largest in the northeast, located on the Goodrich Family Dairy Farm in Salisbury, Vermont.
The Farm Powered Strategic Alliance is a collaborative movement to boost food waste reduction and recycling and expand renewable energy production across America. The Alliance was founded in 2020 by Vanguard Renewables, Unilever, Starbucks, and Dairy Farmers of America and aims to avoid or eliminate food waste first and repurpose what can’t be eliminated into renewable energy via Farm Powered anaerobic digesters.

EverGen Infrastructure Corp. announced that it has signed a term sheet with its existing lender, Roynat Capital and Export Development Canada (“EDC”) for a $31 million syndicated senior term loan to support the upgrade and construction of its Renewable Natural Gas facilities at Fraser Valley Biogas and Net Zero Waste Abbotsford.
"The Facility is an integral component to EverGen’s capital structure as we embark on our planned upgrade and expansion projects,” said Chase Edgelow, CEO of EverGen. "This Facility ensures our near-term Core RNG Expansion projects are fully funded to deliver 480,000 GJ of RNG annually.”
Enbridge Gas, Bluewater Recycling Association and Ontario Waste Management Association Unveil RNG-Fueled Refuse Truck
Bluewater Recycling Association (BRA), Ontario Waste Management Association and Enbridge Gas Inc. announced the first-in-Ontario, carbon-negative refuse truck, fuelled by renewable natural gas produced by a local Ontario farm from largely cow manure.
The BRA's RNG truck will displace CO2 emissions from 18,000 litres of diesel in the first six months. RNG trucks are half the cost of electric trucks and are priced similar to diesel trucks. Diesel trucks can be replaced one-for-one with RNG trucks without compromising performance. Like diesel, RNG operates during freezing weather conditions and refuelling takes minutes.
American Power Group and Galileo Technologies US Announces Marketing Collaboration To Promote Low-Carbon, Zero-Carbon, and Negative-Carbon Solutions in North America
American Power Group Corporation and Galileo Technologies US announced their plan to leverage their complementary alternative fuel capabilities and pursue business opportunities together which can lower net fuel costs and reduce carbon emissions for their customers.
Matt Van Steenwyk, APG's Chairman said, “We are excited to align ourselves with Galileo as we believe APG's low cost, Dual Fuel solution can positively impact demand for all the various natural gas fuel configurations that Galileo's equipment can produce at a lower cost point of entry for their customers.” Ty Webb, Galileo's Senior VP Sales noted, “Our expanding network of CNG/RNG and LNG facilities in North America provide accessible field service support through the entire project lifespan from conception through execution.”
South Dakota Farm Becomes More Sustainable with Methane Digesters
A local dairy operation is becoming more sustainable. Boadwine Dairy in Baltic, South Dakota, is taking manure and turning it into renewable natural gas through the use of their new methane digesters.
It’s all a part of the Athena Project, a partnership with Brightmark, to bring agricultural sustainability to the next level.
Historic Climate Bill to Supercharge Clean Energy Industry
Senate Democrats delivered a dramatic win for President Joe Biden’s effort to fight climate change on August 7, passing a bill that will devote hundreds of billions of dollars to clean energy sources and speed the U.S. transition away from fossil fuels.
The Inflation Reduction Act, which had appeared to be dead just weeks ago and now heads to the House of Representatives, would accelerate U.S. emission cuts and put the country on a path to reduce greenhouse gases by 40 percent below 2005 levels by 2030, significantly narrowing the gap with the goal Biden set under the Paris climate agreement to cut that pollution by at least half by that date.
A Vermont Farm's State-of-the-Art Equipment Helps Turn Food Scraps into Energy
A partnership was announced between Vanguard Renewables and the Vermont Creamery. The partnership is just the beginning of what everyone involved hopes to be a great benefit to the environment. “It’s a win-win-win, better for the farmer, better for the market, better for the community,” said Adeline Druart, President of Vermont Creamery.
“We’re taking food waste and cow manure and putting it in these large tanks — think of them as an Instapot,” said John Hanselman, founder of Vanguard Renewables. After a month goes by, the product is ready. “The gas bubbles go to the top, we harvest that gas and clean it and it becomes renewable natural gas," said Hanselman. "Then we’re left with this beautiful organic natural fertilizer that we can bring back to the soil.”
Brightmark, Chevron Announce First Gas at Athena Project in South Dakota
Brightmark RNG Holdings LLC – a joint venture partnership between Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and Brightmark Fund Holdings LLC – delivered first gas at its Athena Project in Minnehaha County, South Dakota. The project is comprised of three dairy farms, and is part of the previously announced partnership to own project companies across the United States to produce and market dairy biomethane, a renewable natural gas.
Methane generated by the manure from the Athena Project is expected to be captured, cleaned, and converted into RNG, which can be used for transportation, cooking, or electricity. The gas is anticipated to be injected into the local interstate pipeline system statewide.
