Going Big on Renewable Natural Gas for Microgrids
RNG is emerging as a new frontier for microgrids and a way to resolve one of the industry’s core dilemmas. How can it assure the lights stay on without relying on fossil fuels?
Business models are just beginning to emerge for renewable fuel microgrids. And Texas-based Enchanted Rock is one of the companies early out of the gate.
In a recent interview, Enchanted Rock offered a look inside its strategy for renewable natural gas.
Op-Ed: Gas Utility Companies Can Lead in Achieving Environmental Sustainability
As the country looks at ways to combat our climate crisis, natural gas utilities have the opportunity to be leaders in creating renewable energy to achieve environmental sustainability.
As one of the largest investor-owned gas utility companies in New Jersey, South Jersey Industries has already answered the call to be a partner in our clean-energy future. In fact, we’re investing in innovative technologies to reduce the carbon content of our gas and advance energy efficiency measures for our customers, while committing 25% of our annual capital expenditures to sustainability and clean-energy projects.
Among those investments include a focus on fuel cell technologies, renewable natural gas and “green hydrogen” — a zero-carbon fuel when partnered with wind and solar power.
Southwest Gas, RTC and U.S. Gain Partner to Expand Clean Fuel Transit Options in Southern Nevada
Southwest Gas, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) and U.S. Gain are excited to announce a partnership that will provide RTC's transit buses with a cleaner, operationally cost-effective fuel source to help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and decrease operating costs.
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN)-approved agreement allows Southwest Gas to provide RTC with environmentally friendly Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) to fuel most of the agency's public transit fleet. U.S. Gain, a Sustainable Energy Solutions SM provider, was selected to supply the RNG.
Clean Energy Breaks Ground on RNG Dairy Digester in Joint Venture with TotalEnergies
Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced it has broken ground on a renewable natural gas digester at Del Rio Dairy in Friona, TX, its first in a joint venture with TotalEnergies to produce the ultra-clean transportation fuel which will be negative carbon intensive. All the RNG fuel produced at Del Rio Dairy will make its way into Clean Energy’s nationwide network of RNG stations.
When completed, the Del Rio Dairy digester project will capture the waste from more than 7,500 milking cows and generate an anticipated 1.1 million gallons of RNG annually.
Tracking the Energy Transition: Waste Power Joins the Likes of Hydrogen and Sunlight
Collaboration seems to be the name of the game as a slew of companies get together to drive the energy transition. These companies are focusing on alternative sources of methane, new ways of making hydrogen, and new ways of keeping track of it all.
SoCalGas Funds Research into Carbon Capture Technology
Joining the push for carbon-neutrality, Southern California Gas Company said that it has contributed about $650,000 to researching new technology that would capture carbon dioxide from the air while also collecting water that can be reused for irrigation.
