How One of the World’s Biggest Banks Plans to Tackle Climate Change

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a tragedy for many, a crisis for millions more. It has exacerbated age-old inequities and taken a heavy toll on economic growth.

Its long-term effect on our lives is still unclear, but that uncertainty must not induce paralysis. This can be a moment for change, a chance to reset priorities.

Climate change is among the most urgent problems facing humanity; businesses and governments have an imperative to act. Achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement, which aims to restrict a rise in the world’s average temperature, would enable us to take a giant step toward a safer, greener, more sustainable future.

Canadian government funds RNG, biomass heating projects

The Canadian government on Oct. 8 awarded funding to an agricultural biomethanizer plant in Quebec and project that will add high-efficiency biomass boilers to four municipal buildings in New Brunswick.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada announced it will award nearly $900,000 to two projects under its Agricultural Clean Technology Program. An investment of up to $758,243 is being made in Coop Agri-Energie Warwick to support the development of a cooperative agricultural biomethanizer plant. EBA Welcomes Biogas Focus in EU Methane Strategy

The European Biogas Association (EBA) has welcomed the “holistic approach” of the Methane Strategy to accelerate the reduction of methane emissions using biogas and biomethane.

The new EU strategy acknowledges the high potential of biogas to reduce methane emissions in agriculture and boost rural development.

Honeywell Installs 100th Biomethane Injection Station To GRDF

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the installation of its 100th biomethane grid injection station to GRDF, the primary gas distribution operator in France, to support its transition to more sustainable operations. GRDF is an essential partner to local authorities, helping them achieve carbon neutrality through energy choices and sustainable mobility policies.

Biomethane is a renewable energy source that is used in traditional natural gas applications but is 100% locally produced from the degradation of organic waste, including green waste, domestic garbage, agricultural waste, farm waste or industrial waste. Honeywell's grid injection stations act as a gatekeeper to the gas network. These stations measure flow and gas compositions and check them for compliance, add an odor to the gas to assist with leak detection, and collect and transmit operating data to GRDF for monitoring and recording.
