GM Powers Canadian Facility with Renewable Landfill Gas
Today, General Motors Canada and partners announced the completion of a $28 million cogeneration investment at the GM St. Catharines Propulsion plant that will enhance the operation’s competitiveness by lowering greenhouse gas emissions and reducing future energy costs. The cogeneration program is expected to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 70 percent while protecting the engine and transmission plant from rising electricity and carbon costs.
The 6.4-megawatt cogeneration project uses renewable landfill gas delivered by pipeline from the nearby Walker landfill to generate electricity from newly installed engines at the plant. GM will also recover the thermal energy that is typically considered waste to power and heat its St. Catharines Propulsion Plant.

Clean Energy Fuels’ RNG to Fuel New York Transit Buses
Clean Energy Fuels will supply its Redeem™ renewable natural gas (RNG) to 800 New York transit buses.
The firm was contracted by the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to provide its organic waste-derived fuel to power the fleet.
The multi-year agreement for an estimated 25 million gallons of Clean Energy’s Redeem RNG will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 25,351 tonnes annually – equivalent to removing 5,477 petrol cars from the road.

Field Trial Successful For Conversion Of Wood Waste To Renewable Natural Gas
An innovative clean energy start-up, G4 Insights Inc., has successfully demonstrated its technology can convert all types of wood waste into renewable natural gas (RNG) that is indistinguishable from conventional natural gas.
The company is now eager to scale up its technology, preferably at a sawmill. That would provide the forest industry with another commercial outlet for underutilized wood waste while also delivering a significant environmental dividend.
Renewable natural gas produced from sustainably managed forest residues can emit up to 85 per cent fewer greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than conventional natural gas.

New Renewable Natural Gas Project Capable of Producing 1.6 Million Gasoline Gallon Equivalents Annually
Construction has begun on a dairy digester renewable natural gas (RNG) facility, called the Sunoma Renewable Biofuel Project. The new facility will produce 1.6 million gasoline gallon equivalents (GGE) of vehicle fuel annually for the Class 8 trucking sector — enough fuel to move 10 million miles of freight.
This project, headed by Fortistar, is designed to help businesses and public agencies reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with a solution that also saves money. TruStar Energy, a Fortistar portfolio company and developer of natural gas fueling stations, will market and deliver the RNG fuel.

What Is Renewable Natural Gas and Does It Have a Future in Energy?
In the search for alternatives to fossil fuel energy, renewable natural gas is the latest technology to take the spotlight. Renewable natural gas, also known as biogas, is collected from waste. Like natural gas, the main component of this power source is methane. Unlike natural gas, renewable natural gas does not require extraction from coal beds or petroleum reservoirs, which is the main source of commercial natural gas.
Renewable natural gas (RNG) is a sustainable alternative to natural gas. It can be processed in the same way, meaning that utility companies can use it in the same pipelines and other infrastructure without issue. It is also a low-carbon energy solution that does not require fossil fuels to generate power.

DMT Clear Gas Solutions, Nacelle Solutions and U.S. Gain Complete Dairy Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Project in WI
DMT Clear Gas Solutions, a leading technology supplier in biogas upgrading and gas desulfurization, announces its first renewable natural gas (RNG) project with Nacelle Solutions is operational. The Clover Hill Dairy farm project in Wisconsin is the first completed site in a series of four. Nacelle Solutions, a provider for gas conditioning technologies and service for the energy and biogas industries, is contracted with U.S. Gain, a leader in the development, procurement and distribution of RNG for transportation and thermal energy markets, for developing U.S. Gain’s gas upgrading projects. Nacelle has also been retained to own and operate the upgrading equipment, selecting DMT’s membrane separation technology as a key component in the RNG processing facilities.
“DMT has accumulated extensive knowledge within the U.S. biogas industry space—so much so that we signed and commissioned this first project within eight months. With goals to further shorten this timeline for the next projects, we are establishing a delivery time unique to the industry. This enables favorable returns for Nacelle Solutions and U.S. Gain, and we look forward to working with all partners in the future,” said Robert Lems, General Manager of DMT Clear Gas Solutions

UK Sees Potential Growth for Renewable Natural Gas to Reduce Waste
Out of the 674 anaerobic digestion plants in the UK, just over 100 treat solely food waste, and over three times as many treat agricultural wastes.
Calling on the UK government to adopt a more 'Scandinavian approach' to waste policy, the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association has highlighted the role that the technology is already playing in the British economy, and pointed to its 'enormous potential' to do more.

U.S. Gain’s Fourth Dairy RNG Development Project is Operational
U.S. Gain, a leader in development and distribution of renewable natural gas (RNG) recently completed installation of gas production equipment at Dallmann East River Dairy. After just eight months, the Wisconsin farm is now producing clean RNG for the transportation industry.
“We’re proud to bring another dairy RNG project online,” said Mike Koel, president of U.S. Gain. “RNG production at farms can be challenging to get up and running because of process and environmental variables that impact development. However, dairy based RNG features some of the lowest carbon intensity scores, which translates to significant emission savings that leading organizations are seeking. For this reason, we’ll continue investment in RNG development at dairies, and other agricultural operations.”

Greenlane Reports Increased Revenue in RNG Sales
Canada-based Greenlane Renewables Inc., a supplier of biogas upgrading systems, released interim financial results for the first half of 2020 on Aug. 25, reporting significant increases in revenue and sales order backlog.
“We successfully grew our revenue this quarter by 45 percent on a sequential basis while facing some tough marketplace conditions as a result of the COVID19 backdrop,” said Brad Douville, president and CEO of Greenlane. “We also achieved a third consecutive quarter of rapid growth of our sales order backlog adding $21 million from the recent and significant contract wins for dairy farm projects in California. Our focus remains on a strong second half of 2020. This trend continues so far in the third quarter highlighted by a recent contract win in Brazil, and the launch of our joint venture with SWEN Impact Fund for Transition to accelerate deployment of Greenlane’s biogas upgrading systems and solutions in Europe.”

New Jersey Natural Gas joins RNG Coalition
The Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas has welcomed New Jersey Natural Gas Co. to its membership. NJNG joins 230 companies and organizations across North America dedicated to the sustainable development, deployment and utilization of renewable natural gas so that present and future generations will have access to domestic, renewable clean fuel and energy. NJNG is the first New Jersey utility to join the coalition.
"Because RNG can be deployed as natural gas, electricity, or hydrogen, New Jersey Natural Gas' support for RNG will position them to serve there customers with the highest quality, lowest carbon energy available today," said David Cox, co-founder of RNG Coalition. "We are happy to have NJNG in the RNG Coalition and look forward to working in partnership with them in support of the environment and the people of New Jersey."
