Clean Energy Fuels Helps KeHE Fuel its Trucks with RNG

KeHE Distributors, a leading natural and organic, fresh and specialty distributor has partnered with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to add low-carbon emission trucks fueled with renewable natural gas (RNG) to their California fleet in 2020. By swapping five diesel trucks with natural gas trucks, KeHE expects an annual carbon reduction of 674 metric tons, the equivalent of planting 11,120 trees and recycling 235 tons of landfill waste.

Dominion Energy Launches GreenTherm Program for ID & UT Residents

Dominion Energy (DE)’s new GreenTherm program gives Utah and Idaho customers an easy and convenient way to support the development of renewable natural gas (RNG). The use of RNG results in a net reduction of greenhouse gases, which helps customers lower their carbon footprint.

RNG is produced by capturing methane from existing waste streams and a variety of renewable and sustainable organic sources such as waste water, landfills, agricultural waste or food waste.

RNG Demand Increases by 800%, Thanks to Major UK Companies

Demand for renewable biomethane compressed natural gas (Bio-CNG) has increased by 800%, thanks to major companies adopting alternative fuels, according to CNG Fuels. The news follows the announcement that CNG Fuels is building to new refuelling stations to deliver the low-carbon, low-cost alternative for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), with support from fund manager, Ingenious.

The new refuelling stations in Warrington, UK (Europe’s biggest station) and Northampton are capable of refuelling more than 1,000 HGVs every day, more than doubling the 600-per-day capacity of CNG Fuels’ existing stations at Leyland, Lancashire and Crewe, Cheshire. The firm is planning to open an additional six to eight stations over the next 12 months as it expands its network of HGV refuelling stations in line with soaring demand.

Organic Waste: Huge Untapped Potential to Provide Clean Energy Around World

The world’s biogas and biomethane resources could cover 20% of global gas demand while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, according to new IEA report.

The world is only using a fraction of the potential to produce gas from organic waste, which could cover around 20% of today’s global demand for gas, according to a new report by the International Energy Agency released today.

Heathrow Airport Makes Deal with ENGIE to Supply Terminals with RNG

All terminals at Heathrow will soon to be supplied with "100 per cent green" biomethane gas, after the airport inked a deal with French energy giant ENGIE to replace fossil fuel gas sources at the site.

The agreement announced today will see ENGIE supply the airport with biomethane produced by breaking down a "variety of feedstocks" from within the UK - such as food waste and crops - via anaerobic digestion (AD), the firm explained.

The biomethane is certified under the Renewable Gas Guarantees of Origin (RGGOs) Scheme as being wholly derived from anaerobic digestion, the company said, adding that the agreement represents ENGIE's "largest forward green gas contract" to date.

Brown University Divests 90% of Fossil Fuel Holdings

Brown University sold 90% of its investments in companies that extract fossil fuels and is liquidating the remainder, President Christina H. Paxson said in a letter to the campus community Wednesday.

The president's letter updates the school's efforts to confront climate change, which "may be the single most pressing problem that society faces today," Ms. Paxson wrote.

Scientific evidence is clear that "without a rapid transition away from fossil fuels on a global scale, it will become impossible to avert disastrous consequences for humans and the natural environment worldwide," she said.

FortisBC Proposed Renewable Natural Gas Project for Williams Lake

A wood fibre processing plant that would produce renewable natural gas (RNG) is being proposed for Williams Lake.

Mayor Walt Cobb announced the project at the regular meeting Tuesday, March 10, saying if it is built it would be the first of its kind in North America.

“It will turn wood into natural gas to go right in the gas line,” Cobb said. “It doesn’t need any other processing. The residual is basically sand and there’s so little left through this process that has been demonstrated to us.”

Stratford Residents to Begin receiving Green Bins: Waste-to-RNG Program

Stratford politicians were the first to receive their green bins during a committee meeting Monday evening, just prior to the city beginning its roll-out of the first phase of Stratford’s curbside organics collection program on Tuesday.

Stratford residents living in single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, and other buildings with less than five units can expect to receive a 45-litre green bin and a small “kitchen-catcher” container by the end of March, in anticipation of the city’s first day of curbside-organics collection on April 6.
