Austin City Council Passes Resolution Addressing Natural Gas And Sustainability

Yesterday, the Austin City Council unanimously approved a resolution requesting Texas Gas Service (TGS) to take steps to build a more sustainable business for Austin residents. This action uses technology and market mechanisms to reduce our carbon footprint, with a specific focus on opportunities related to natural gas.

The resolution will result in:

Innovative Power-to-gas Technologies for Europe's Energy Transition by 2050

On the way towards climate neutrality, power-to-gas technologies are essential components. Within the STORE&GO project, researchers from all over Europe successfully implemented different processes for the production of synthetic natural gas (SNG) from renewable electricity. From three pilot plants, SNG was fed into the local natural gas grids or liquefied for use as mobile energy carrier. In addition, the team analyzed economic advantages of power-to-gas (PtG) technologies and developed the corresponding regulatory recommendations. The project results will now be presented at the final conference at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on February 17 and 18, 2020.

77 RNG-powered Buses Launched in Bristol, UK

UK-based bus transportation firm First West of England has launched 77 biomethane-powered buses in the city of Bristol. The first 10 biogas buses came into operation in January 2020, refuelling at an existing biogas station that opened in 2019. As part of the company’s latest initiative, First has constructed a new gas filling station at the Lawrence Hill depot where the new buses can now refuel.

Another 27 buses took to the streets of Bristol this week. The new buses feature Scania chassis built in the UK and will reduce emissions by 85%, as well as giving customers an ‘improved on-board experience’, according to First, with comfortable interiors, USB charging points and additional wheelchair space.
