VGS Plans to Eliminate Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2050
Vermont Business Magazine VGS announced today an ambitious and comprehensive strategy to transform the company and eliminate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. The company outlined three key strategies to achieve the near-term goal of a 30% greenhouse gas reduction in customers’ homes and businesses by 2030: doubling energy efficiency savings with a $20 million upfront investment; significantly expanding renewable natural gas for customers; and strengthening partnerships to advance projects such as district energy in Burlington and Middlebury, and a net zero home pilot program.
Ratepayers will be part of the process and would see an average $3 monthly increase on their bills. Rendall noted that ratepayers have seen their annual costs go down about $250 over the last 10 years, not even accounting for inflation.

Demand for Redeem RNG grows, New Clean Energy Fuels Contracts Announced
Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced Nov. 5 new fuel, construction and service agreements as more fleets convert from diesel to Redeem renewable natural gas (RNG), a transportation fuel made from organic waste that not only addresses short-term air quality issues caused by diesel, but is a carbon-neutral alternative that greatly reduces the amount of greenhouse gas produced by vehicles.
Clean Energy has begun a major fueling infrastructure upgrade for trucks operating in the Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach. The upgrade will increase the availability of Redeem at the nation’s largest alternative fuel station in America’s largest port complex. The first phase of the project, which has been completed, delivers renewable compressed natural gas (CNG) through six new dispensers. RNG Plant to Turn Landfill Gas Into Fuel
Work is underway on what Indianapolis-based Kinetrex Energy says will be the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) project in Indiana. Chief Executive Officer Aaron Johnson says the project is the latest sign that Indiana is becoming a national leader in renewable fuels.
Kinetrex is working with Australia-based sustainable energy producer EDL and South Side Landfill of Indianapolis on the $25 million project. The companies say, when complete, the facility on the south side of Indianapolis will turn methane produced by the landfill into about 8 million gallons of RNG each year in a process they say will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create a renewable energy resource and lower fuel costs. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says methane is up to 36 times stronger than carbon dioxide.
