Biomethane from Wastewater Solids to Supply 9,600 UK Households with Energy
In winter 2019, the German biogas plant manufacturer WELTEC BIOPOWER has started building a biomethane plant near Pontefract, West Yorkshire, UK. The client is Lanes Farm Energy, a gas-to-grid project developed by Aqua Consultants. Tel Sultan, director of Lanes Farm Energy said "After in-depth discussions with over ten technology providers, WELTEC was selected to be our partner to deliver the technology." The plant will go live in late 2019 and deliver c7.3 million m³ of biomethane to the UK gas distribution network. This amount of eco-friendly natural gas equivalent is sufficient to supply about 9,600 households with sustainable energy, 24/7.

Governor Cuomo Announces Approval of Clean Energy Food Waste Recycling Facility on Long Island
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the Board of Trustees of the Long Island Power Authority voted to approve the first stand-alone large-scale anaerobic digester - a type of food waste recycling facility - in the New York City metropolitan area. The project, which will be operational in 2020, will produce four megawatts of clean energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions on Long Island by 85,000 metric tons a year, the equivalent to removing 18,000 cars from the road. The clean energy project directly supports Governor Cuomo's Green New Deal, a clean energy and jobs agenda that puts New York State on a path to a carbon-free economy and supports the State's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.

EPA Likely to Grant Partial Waivers from U.S. Biofuel Laws for 2018: sources
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is likely to issue partial waivers to some of the 39 small refineries seeking relief from the nation’s biofuel laws for 2018, in an unusual option to balance the competing interests of oil and corn producers, two sources briefed on the matter said on Wednesday.
The agency typically either approves or denies a waiver request in full, and has only granted one partial exemption since the start of the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard program more than a decade ago, Reuters has previously reported.

US EPA Schedules Hearing March 29 on Proposed E15/RIN Reform Rule
The U.S. EPA has announced it will hold a public hearing on its proposed E15/RIN reform rule on March 29 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest.
The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end when all parties present who wish to speak have had an opportunity to do so. Parties wishing to testify at the hearing must contact the EPA by March 26. Specific registration information is available in a notice published in the Federal Register March 18.

GAS RNG Joins the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas, Signaling Active Engagement in RNG Value Chain
Today, GAS RNG announced that it has joined more than 175 other companies and organizations in the renewable natural gas industry value chain as an official member of the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition).
Founded in 2011, the RNG Coalition is the non-profit trade association representing companies, municipalities, universities and organizations dedicated to the advancement of RNG, including as an ultra-clean, domestically produced, renewable fuel in North America.

Xebec to Deliver Biogas for RNG Project in Italy
Xebec Adsorption Inc., a global provider of renewable gas solutions, has signed a CDN$6-plus million contract for a landfill biogas upgrading plant in Italy, to be delivered in late 2019. Fully operational, it will produce approximately 5 million cubic meters of carbon neutral renewable natural gas (RNG) annually, replacing the equivalent of approximately 5 million liters of diesel fuel.

Høglund to Supply Renewable Fuel-Gas Systems for Hurtigruten Retrofits
Høglund today announced that it has been awarded a contract to deliver biogas-ready fuel-gas supply systems (FGSS) for six Hurtigruten passenger ship retrofits.
Høglund will work together with HB Hunte Engineering to design and engineer fully customized tank and FGSS solutions for each of the six vessels, optimized to run on both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG), according to a statement.

South Side Landfill Planning $25 million Methane-Conversion Project
A landfill on the southwest side of Indianapolis could soon get a $25 million upgrade to capture methane gas and turn it into renewable natural gas for transportation fleets, as a substitute for diesel fuel.
South Side Landfill Inc. is teaming up with Kinetrex Energy of Indianapolis and EDL Energy of Australia to build a natural gas facility by the landfill, near Kentucky Avenue and Raymond Street.

SoCalGas Funds Demonstration of Ingevity's Adsorbed Natural Gas Technology for Light-Duty Trucks
Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) today announced it will fund a field demonstration of adsorbed natural gas bi-fuel vehicles powered by natural gas compressing technology developed by Adsorbed Natural Gas Products, Inc. and Ingevity. Adsorbed natural gas technology uses Ingevity's unique Nuchar® activated carbon to reduce the storage pressure of natural gas without sacrificing the volume of natural gas stored through a process called adsorption. Using this type of fuel provides a cleaner and lower cost fuel option for large, light-duty vehicles, such as SUVs, half-ton pickup trucks, and service vans, than diesel, gasoline, or traditional compressed natural gas fuel.

Gas for Climate Releases New Study: Biomethane/Hydrogen Aiding in Decarbonization
London — A grouping of European gas grid operators said Monday there was a bigger role than thought for renewable gases to play in Europe's decarbonization efforts, with infrastructure needed to allow for some 270 Bcm/year of "green" gas usage by 2050.
Under the umbrella of the Gas for Climate initiative -- formed in 2017 to analyze and create awareness about the role of renewable and low-carbon gas -- the TSOs said existing infrastructure could be used to transport cleaner gas in the future.
