Report: It’s Time for NYC to Do Away With Diesel and Switch to RNG
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including Energy Vision, the New York League of Conservation Voters and WE ACT for Environmental Justice, are calling on New York City to stop buying heavy-duty diesel vehicles for its municipal fleets and to adopt alternatives that are available today.
Specifically, they are asking the city and Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to take the following actions:
- Stop allocating funds for the purchase of new heavy-duty diesel trucks and MTA diesel buses;
- Focus new heavy-duty vehicle purchases on the best diesel alternatives, such as electric vehicles or renewable natural gas (RNG) vehicles; and
- Make the necessary capital expenditures on infrastructure and fleet garage modifications to support implementation of these alternatives.

World Biogas Association touts benefits of AD in new report
The World Biogas Association (WBA) and C40 Cities have released a report, titled "Global Food Waste Management: An Implementation Guide For Cities," that aims to help policy makers in cities improve the management of food waste.
The report, which was presented to the mayor of Rotterdam on Wednesday, outlines for city leaders the sources and impact of food waste; how to prevent and collect food waste; an overview of treatment technologies; a detailed description of anaerobic digestion (AD) and its products; and policy recommendations, barriers and implementation of sustainable food waste management.
Policy recommendations include undertaking large-scale food waste awareness campaigns; requiring businesses to separately collect food waste' providing separate food waste collection containers to households; and requiring all food waste to be "used" or processed through animal feed, composting or AD.

B.C. setting new greenhouse gas reduction targets
2020 target officially scrapped, now 40% reduction sought by 2030
By Tom Fletcher.
The B.C. NDP government has made official what the former B.C. Liberal government acknowledged three years ago – it’s not going to make its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a third in 2020.
Environment Minister George Heyman introduced legislation Monday to set new targets: a 40 per cent cut by 2030 and 60 per cent by 2040. Those are compared to 2007 levels, the year before B.C. became the first province in Canada to levy a carbon tax on fuels, from coal to gasoline to natural gas.
