South Carolina Creates Tax Credit to Support Landfill Gas-to-RNG Projects

Gov. Henry McMaster has signed SB 556 into law, establishing a new state income tax credit equal to 25% of equipment costs for producing renewable natural gas from landfill gas — capped at $5 million per taxpayer per year. The credit applies to tax years 2026 through 2029, can be carried forward up to 15 years, and is transferable to other eligible taxpayers. Regulated utilities receiving the credit are required to pass the benefit on to ratepayers.
