Casella and Waga Energy Open RNG Facility at Chemung County Landfill
Casella Waste Systems and Waga Energy held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of a new renewable natural gas production facility at the Chemung County Landfill in Elmira, New York. Powered by Waga Energy’s patented WAGABOX technology, the facility upgrades landfill gas into pipeline-quality RNG that is injected directly into the Valley Energy distribution network. It is designed to generate up to 610,000 MMBtu annually, is projected to produce 340,000 MMBtu in its first year — the equivalent of 2.4 million gallons of diesel fuel — and is expected to avoid more than 47,000 tons of CO2-equivalent emissions per year.
