Renewable Gas Finds Eager Customers in Trucking

Renewable natural gas (RNG) is finding a growing customer base in US heavy-duty trucking fleets, which are seeing fairly swift cost savings, according to RNG producer and refueling specialist Opal Fuels.

"Capturing harmful methane is the single most important thing we can do to halt climate change, and we've built Opal Fuels to maximize the value of that resource in transport fuel," co-CEO Adam Comora tells Energy Intelligence in an interview. So far, the company has built 350 RNG fueling stations in the US and the choice of locations is deliberate. "Really, all the fueling infrastructure we're building is around dedicated fleets. We are not building stations where we think or hope traffic will show up."
