RWE fires up power-to-gas energy storage plant

Germany's largest power producer has unveiled a R2m power-to-gas energy storage plant in the Westphalia region. 

WE's new plant uses electrolysis to convert excess electricity from renewable sources into hydrogen.

This hydrogen can then be stored within the natural gas network and converted back into electricity when needed. The waste heat from the electrolyser is also utilised via a connection with the local district heating network.
