Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas Selected to Provide Thought Leadership for G7 Summit on Sustainable Energy from Waste Streams

Charlevoix, Quebec – The Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition) was selected by Climate Change - The New Economy(CCTNE), the leading publication on Climate Change at the G7 and COP Summits, to write the lead statement on the role of policy in promoting sustainable energy practices for the 2018 G7 Summit in Canada.

“The honor of being requested by CCTNE to provide insight for international policy leaders at the G7 Summit is a testament to the policy platform and advocacy voice our organization and members have established for the renewable natural gas industry across North America,” said RNG Coalition Founder & CEO Johannes Escudero in response to the selection.

The RNG Coalition’s piece in the publication, authored by Director of Public Affairs Marcus Gillette, exhibited the growth of the North American renewable natural gas industry in recent years as a leading example of the success of national clean fuels programs like the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS).

“The RNG industry is a model success story showing the effectiveness of clean fuels policies,” said Gillette. “Aside from the overall growth in RNG production, the growth in RNG used as a transportation fuel under the Renewable Fuel Standard and regional Low Carbon Fuel Standards provides clear evidence these policy programs are working as intended.”

When there were 51 RNG facilities in 2015, the RNG Coalition set a goal to double the number of RNG production facilities in North America by 2025. The industry is currently on pace to exceed that benchmark ahead of the target year.

The G7 (or “Group of Seven”) Summit is an annual meeting between leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. The 44th G7 Summit ran June 8 through June 9, 2018 in Charlevoix, Quebec. “Working Together on Climate Change, Oceans and Clean Energy” was one of five themes guiding summit talks.

About the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas

The RNG Coalition was founded in 2011 and represents the renewable natural gas industry in North America, providing policy advocacy and education for companies and organizations that produce or otherwise support production and distribution of biogas-derived renewable natural gas (RNG, biomethane) – a domestic, clean source of renewable power, heat and ultra-low carbon transportation fuel that makes up the predominant share of cellulosic biofuel produced in the United States and Canada.

Since 2008, CCTNE - ‘Climate Change the New Economy’ has promoted independent and informed discussion on issues related to climate change and sustainable development, through high quality publications aimed at political business leaders and opinion formers. CCTNE is the only publication on this crucial subject matter, present at the G7 Summits.
